Unlikely collaborations have been with us ever since a cold David Bowie joined Bing Crosby’s by the fire to sing “Little Drummer Boy,” or Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler smashed his way into Run-DMC’s rehearsal space to drop the chorus of “Walk This Way.”
These days, everyone’s working with everyone whether it’s a good fit or an absolute trainwreck (most usually the latter). Now Modest Mouse and OutKast’s Big Boi have teamed up in the studio to lay down some tracks for the indie rock titans’ new album.
Big Boi let the cat out of the bag on Twitter, writing, “Me and @mouche1 [OutKast producer Chris Carmouche] in the studio workin with Modest Mouse on their new album Turnt up ! Shout out to Issac and the crew!”
He then followed it up with another tweet, praising Isaac Brock and co. for their skills at bringing the funk, which is perhaps the biggest shock of any here: “Been camped out in the Lab with Modest Mouse all week, workin on the new mouse LP, coolest cats ever. Long Live The Funk”.
Nothing has been said from Modest Mouse’s camp, but news of a new album makes sense since it’s been four years since they released We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. In fact, in a recent webisode of the Portland-based Don’t Move Here series, Isaac Brock invited viewers into his home, even going so far as to play a brand new song with his bandmates, which may or may not be on the next record, which Big Boi revealed may or may not be titled Turnt up!.
You can watch that clip below.
