Whoever is holding tickets for the Broadway production of American Idiot between tomorrow and October 3rd now has some leverage on scalpers: Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will join the cast for a residency on stage for eight performances.
According to the Associated Press, the show’s producers announced yesterday that Armstrong will take over the role of persuasive drug dealer St. Jimmy beginning Tuesday (tomorrow) through Sunday, October 3rd before embarking on Green Day’s South American tour.
Armstrong, who composed and co-wrote the musical, replaces actor Tony Vincent, who will be on leave dealing with a family matter.
American Idiot, of course, is based on Green Day’s Grammy-winning 2004 album and “follows an antihero who flees a deadening suburbia and descends into sex, drugs and fierce guitar playing in his quest to find himself in the big city.”
