Blacks Kids @ The Mod Club

Last night I had the chance to check out the Black Kids concert at the Mod Club. They are touring in support of their debut album Partie Traumatic which was released in July. Touring and opening for the Black Kids was New York based indie rockers The Virgins.

The Virgins got the night started to a pretty decent sized crowd at the Mod Club. I’m not too familiar with their music, except for their singles Rich Girls and Private Affair which they played (if you were at the show comment other tracks that were played). The crowd was really into their set, dancing and hopping around to the dancy feel of The Virgins. Overall The Virgins were good live and their unique sound made me want to get their self-titled debut album.

After a little break, which allowed the crew to setup, the Black Kids emerged on stage to a roaring crowd. They opened their set with their latest single Look at Me (When I Rock Wichoo) which then led into Hit The Heartbrakes without a break in between. Following the two songs lead singer Reggie Youngblood introduced the band to cheers from the packed Mod Club. I didn’t realize how packed it got until I looked around and noticed people on the balconies and all the way to the back where the merchandise stand was. Following their introduction, they ripped into Partie Traumatic where the crowd really got into it dancing and singing to the Jacksonville, Florida rockers. They followed that with dancy tracks Listen To Your Body Tonight, Love Me Already and I Wanna Be Your Limousine. They also played a cover of Magnetic Fields Strange Powers and kind of made it their own by putting a dancy twist to the song. They ended their set with the super popular I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You which got the crowd to an ultra super high where everyone was singing and dancing along! They followed that up by a two song encore which featured their other hit single Hurricane Jane that also made the crowd sing and dance along. Throughout the whole show the energy level was high and the crowd was extremely into the music and dancing along. I’ve been a fan of theirs since they released the Wizard of Ahhhs EP and I cannot wait until they come back!
