Who knew styling could be so cutthroat?
We’ve met our candidates, the employers, and I think the devil! Here’s what happened in episode one, plus a peak at what’s to come:
Gary and Janna worked with Jen Rade to dress Kim Kardashian for some Grammy parties and award shows. Jen is fierce and intimidating, but you can tell she knows how to get things down, and what good fashion choices are, and how to work with celebrities.
Brett worked with Julie Weiss, and they dressed V Factory for a photo shoot. Julie came off as a work-work-work type of girl, but as long as you could keep up, you were good to go. She seemed to respect the fact Brett approached her about a side job, but is probably gonna hold that against him next week.
Gary totally beat Janna in style choices for Kim Kardashian (plus, every time he was asked why he picked something, he had a specific answer, so he trumps her on fashion intel too!). My only beef – he was a little too talkie – Jen Rade was right, he’s still learning, and he can’t be that bold in front of someone and influence their decisions. Kim’s answers need to come from her, not Gary prompting her.

FYI – Kim was happy with her choices, and even wore one of Gary’s pulls for some awards show thing.
Brett – so far, my favourite character. He’s got personality, a sense of humour, and just seems like this down to earth guy. So, because he’s a nice guy, I think that’s why he got screwed (but more on that later…). He dressed V Factory, and did a wicked job (pulling the last minute jacket to save the day!).
V Factory seemed to like him too (totally not modest and getting their striptease as they went through racks of clothes) and offered Brett a chance to dress the lead singer for the premiere of his movie “FAME”.

His downfall (besides trusting Janna!) was using Julie’s name to buy clothes with when he got offered the side job by V Factory. I don’t blame him for wanting to take the job, and he even did the honourable thing by asking her first. Now, if she said no, I don’t think he should have gone ahead, but if he had mentioned he was asked, and was going to do it (or maybe even involved her somehow) that would have been better. But now she thinks he’s a backstabber, and he’s probably out of the competition now.

Janna – the devil! Who would have thought even can take the form of a bubbly little blonde? First of all, she has no clue about fashion (Jen Rade hated her choices, and she couldn’t even defend them when asked why she pulled certain items. HA! Take that witch!). But the worst part – she freaking encouraged Brett to do the side job, went with him to buy the clothes –helped pick stuff, and then did a 180 and ratted him out to Julie NOT MENTIONING HER PART IN IT.
That’s it for StyL’D this week – what did you think?
