Booring

How boring were The Oscars this year? If you’re going to have a five second delay at an awards show, you might as well have some reason to use it - like streakers?or weirdos or something. But no, this year everyone was on their best & boringest behaviour.

As usual, the funniest stuff was Joan Rivers’ inane questions on the red carpet. My favourite was when she blearily asked Sofia Coppola how she got her start in the movie business. Sofia Coppola. She was in the best movie of all time when she was still in diapers (she played the baby in the christening scene). Yes, she was also in the most disappointing movie of all time? but let’s pretend that never happened.

Asking her how she got into movies is like asking Hank Williams III why he got into music. It’s like asking George W. Bush where he got the idea to invade Iraq. But anyway, I think we can all agree that Bill Murray deserved an Oscar…for Caddyshack.

If you liked Lost in Translation, you might like the book I’m reading now - it’s a pretty funny story about life as a foreigner in Japan. It’s called Angry White Pyjamas and it’s the true story of an out-of-shape lonely Brit in Tokyo who goes through intensive martial arts training with the Kidotai, the Tokyo Riot Police. It’s is like Karate Kid meets High Fidelity with extra riot cops.
