In our commercialized society, messages of peace and giving are often overshadowed by those of selfish overconsumption. Sadly we seem more interested in Brit Brit’s knickers than issues that threaten our very existence. With the holidays here I thought now would be a good time to spread positive messages and shed light on those who actually deserve it – the ones trying to help.

Pro surfers Kelly Slater and Makua Rothman are dipping their toes in the peace pond the best way they know how: by surfing in it. The pair teamed up with the organization “Surfers for Peace” and spread surf vibes in Israel by holding a concert and handing out surfboards to the locals, all in an effort to show that people who surf together can live together.

When Hanson was in town, the mmmboping trio did their part and walked a mile in the snow to raise awareness for AIDS and poverty in Africa. Had it not been snowing, the boys would have done it barefoot.

Not too long ago, Our Lady Peace vet Raine Maida busked around Toronto to raise money and awareness for War Child. Not to be outdone his other half, Chantal Kreviazuk, joined in and spread the word by going to Ethiopia for the cause.

See peeps, it’s not always about hook-ups, knickers, and attacking paps. If you know of any other celebs spreading the peace vibes, let us know.
