As promised last week, Bruno Mars has released the first single from the old-soul crooners sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox with the sexually charged track Locked Out of Heaven. Contrasting the wall of sound created for the song’s chorus with layers of instruments and synthesizers to the simplicity of only a guitar and drum set for the verses, Mars is continuing to break the mold on pop music and create a sound that is all his own.
Comparing time with his lover to a religious awakening, Bruno sings “You bring me to my knees / You make me testify / You can make a sick man change his ways / Open up your gates ‘cuz I can’t wait to see the light.” It seems that the man who made millions swoon with songs Just The Way You Are and Grenade is ready to reclaim his place as the preacher of sexy pop.
During a live chat last night, Mars admitted that his new album, due out on December 11, was delayed in order to “…focus and fine-tune every song. I really had a much better vision of exactly what I wanted to do this time around.”
We’ll likely get to hear Bruno perform the track live very soon. Mars is scheduled to appear as both the host and musical guest for SNL later this month on October 20th. If his recent Funny Or Die skit is any indication of Mars’ comedic timing, we think it’s going to be a very good episode.
