If you’re jazzed about the forthcoming Tron Legacy (out December 17th) and its Daft Punk-composed soundtrack (out December 7th), well, you can get your fill with the new mixtape by Alberta’s finest rapper/producer Cadence Weapon.
Titled Tron Legacy, the mixtape opens with Cadence talking about his involvement with the movie, all the work that went into the soundtrack, hanging out with Daft Punk and working with Jeff Bridges. Wow, he was that involved with the movie? No, he wasn’t. In an interview with Exclaim! he admits that never actually happened.
About the mix, he says, “I wanted to do something similar to The Drought series by Lil’ Wayne, just rapping over beats that I really like…It’s a back to basics kind of thing. I’m rapping over Gucci Mane beats and I rapped over an Arcade Fire song…My idea was to do a parody of your typical rap mixtape…I’ve been noticing with a lot of mixtapes is that rappers are talking about movies they had nothing to do with. T.I. has this mixtape where he’s Photoshopped himself into the cover of Inception and there are all these skits, but really he had nothing to do with the movie.”
The 40-minute mix includes beats by Gucci Mane, Arcade Fire, Big Boi, Sleigh Bells, Daft Punk, Jay-Z, Raekwon, E-40, with guest vocals by Buck 65, Shad, Subtitle, Birdapres, Kazmega, among others.
While he is offering the mixtape for a “pay-what-you-like” price, you can really just grab it for free, if you like. Click here to download it.
