If you want to make dance track that stands out in an over-saturated market and an accompanying music video that plays like a cinematic masterpiece, Scottish DJ Calvin Harris is your guy. Florence and The Machine front woman Florence Welch recently teamed up with Harris on the duo’s dynamite track Sweet Nothing and have released not only one of the best songs of the year, but also one of the best videos.
The video for Sweet Nothing hit the web today and looks like a combination of Harris’ video for Rihanna’s We Found Love and every Guy Ritchie movie ever made. Unfortunately, Jason Statham doesn’t make an appearance.
Florence plays a singer in a gentleman’s club, beginning the video looking very Annie Lennox-like in a men’s suit. Florence later strips off the suit to reveal a bondage bustier. Harris’ role in the video seems to be as Welch’s confidante as the two are seen arguing in a bathroom, later with Harris watching Florence as she sings. My guess is that this is supposed to show Florence telling Harris about her abusive boyfriend at home. Harris then pays men to find Welch’s boyfriend and beat him up, while Florence reenacts the fight on stage. At least I think that’s what happening. Showing another similarity to Ritchie’s work, this video will require multiple viewings to deduct the exact storyline.
Sweet Nothing is part of Harris’ new album 18 Months, which is set to be released on October 29th.
