Jeff Goldblum was on The Colbert Report last night, confirming that he is in fact alive. You can watch the hilarious clip here, where he and Colbert poke fun at how quickly the false news spread via Twitter. And all in all it is kinda ridiculous.

NOW PLAYING: MJ

Monday, June 29th, 2009

This weekend I did what millions of people around the world also did: I listened to a ton of Michael Jackson.

I estimate that I’ve heard at least ONE Michael Jackson song every day of my life for the past 25 years. That means I’ve heard his songs at least 9,000 times (and let’s be honest: I probably listened to MJ 9,000 times between 1982 and 1985 alone). He’s everywhere. Whether I’m walking down the street listening to my iPod, or I’m in my car driving (Off The Wall is the one CD that NEVER leaves my car), MJ’s music is always easily accessible in my world.

GONE TOO SOON.

WOW. I can’t even believe I’m writing this.

There are certain moments in history, in pop culture, that everyone can look back on and definitively say, “I remember where I was when…”

Belly Comments on Michael Jackson

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Words can’t describe how sad I am right now. Michael Jackson practically raised me, like millions and millions of other people all over the world. When my family came to Canada in the early 90’s, we were singing Michael Jackson’s songs before we even knew how to speak english. He was known in all corners of the earth, and I can speak for everybody when I say he’ll be greatly missed and never forgotten. My heart goes out to his whole family, especially his 3 kids.

God Bless

Dancing till you drop just got real

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

So little ol’ me decided to head on over to Pitchfork for some music news and what do I find? Not an album review. Not news on the newest hottest band.

No.

Someone died at Bonnaroo you guys. The crew were cleaning up after the festival and they found a body in a tent. No news yet on the cause of death.

Crazy right? I love going to music festivals but now I’m kinda scared. Hey any horror movie producers out there!? I’ve got an idea for a new movie! Death by festival! Think about it. Actually don’t. It is creepy.

Here’s Pitchfork’s news on it.

Who left this guy in a tent? Was he not with friends? Let’s play CSI and try and figure this one out. My theory? The music was just so amazing. I mean really did you see the line-up? Either that or he really is just playing dead. Like a dog or something. His friends left him there and he’s trying to teach them a lesson.

* All joking aside this is sad and my heart goes out the the family and friends. Party safe everyone.

Pixies Reunion: How do you feel when your favourite band reunites?

Friday, March 13th, 2009

pixies1988

In 2004 when The Pixies, a longtime favourite of mine, announced they were reuniting for a big tour, my only emotion was disappointment. No, I wasn’t eager to see them reunite. I was satisfied with the canon of amazing work they’d already released, and also happy with the music that Frank Black had created as a solo artist since their demise in 1993. From 1988 to 1991 the band released one amazing album after another - that’s four consistent albums in four consecutive years. Frank Black is nothing if not prolific. I kind of like thinking back to that Pixies “era” - the amazingly short blitzkrieg of years that they were successful - and I have nothing but fond memories.

So earlier today when P4K announced that their reunion was once again back on, I guffawed. Continue Reading »
