Manu Dibango vs. Michael Jackson & Rihanna

Friday, February 13th, 2009

So the name Manu Dibango may not mean anything to you, but about 10 of his syllables may ring a bell: he sued Michael Jackson back in the day over MJ’s hit Wanna be Startin’ Somethin’ because Dibango claimed that “Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa,” was ripped off from his 1972 hit Soul Makossa (considered by many as the first recorded disco song), but nothing was resolved and the whole thing just kinda went away, until very recently. Monday, February 9th, 2009

rihannaatthegrammys

So by now everyone knows that both Chris Brown & Rihanna were no-shows among last night’s Grammy Awards performers, and it’s allegedly because Chris Brown was being detained due to a domestic violence charge? Reflecting On Black History Month

Friday, February 6th, 2009

When I moved from St. John’s to Halifax I quickly found out about the history of Africville, Nova Scotia. I couldn’t believe that having lived so close to Nova Scotia (in Newfoundland) for my entire life; I had never even heard of Africville and then was shocked even more to find so many people across this country who hadn’t heard of the community, the history and the relocation of its residents.

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

So I was at the inauguration in Washington yesterday. It was the most amazing thing I have ever been a part of - millions of people, energy that was almost tangible. A television can’t do it justice…words can’t describe it…but there is always song. It’s by an artist called Khalel and it’s called “Obama” - check it out below and let me know what you think!
