[Guest blog from Tim of Rise Against]
Today millions of people will watch their favorite bands and celebrities perform on giant stages in an effort to create awareness about global warming and our planet’s insatiable appetite for our dwindling natural resources. We will sing along to our favorite songs and admire the fashion decisions of the stars. Tomorrow, the earth will holds its breath. She will cross her fingers. She will hope that maybe this will be the event that finally makes her inhabitants wake up and decide to make big decisions and small ones. Will this be that event? Will today be that day? That’s up to you.
Peace: tim

[Guest blog from Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries]
It’s a pity it’s come to this, but it’s a fact. It’s amazing that all these musicians have come together to help influence the human race to put a stop to the destruction.
As an individual, I have 4 kids and I can tell you as a mother that our kids are growing up with a different awarness than we did. They spend hours in school learning about the melting ice caps and holes in the ozone layer. It’s amazing that recycling is second nature to them.
It would be good if the government was more strict about reducing aerosol and carbon emissions. I’ve seen cars in third world countries emitting black, black fumes. It adds up. If countries completely omitted aerosol, it would make such a difference. There are alternatives, like roll-on deodorant.
I think Canada is one of the leading countries in making change, and it’s good to see my country has made a lot of changes in the past few years. The see through bags have hit the shores of Ireland, and even in the countryside you can see improvements.
Tolerance should be as near to zero as possible when it comes to damaging the environment. If you don’t become involved, things are going to continue to get worse.
It’s sad to see how global warming is affecting the Antarctic; melting ice caps and the animals could soon have no habitat. The polar bears’ homes are melting and they have to swim more and more - soon they won’t be able to swim anymore, and they’ll drown. The whole idea of polar bears becoming extinct, elephants becoming extinct in other continents…it’s going to happen unless we do something. We’re seriously affecting the globe.
Where will we go?

We started at 8 this morning after working til midnight last night - just to bring you the goods and the downlow from New York. There are tons of media here today - some of whom are deliberately trying to find ‘faults’ in the system. One major US network known for their conservative slant actually filled a garbage bin with litter to make it seem like the event is causing a mess. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!! Nevermind them…they are just major buzzkills that ain’t gonna kill this buzz! The venue has done so much great work to green the stadium - cups made from corn, TP made from recycled paper, the recycled tires on the stage, no bottled water just water coolers and the corn cups. Doing our part to keep things green - if only every media outlet did the same.

[This guest blog brought to you by Kalan Porter]
Hey Guys,
I’m at MuchMusic for a Live Earth Interview… and actually feeling a little hypocritical. I’m probably as bad as anyone. I get inspired and think…ok I’m never driving again…and I’m not showering for a year. And then in 10 minutes when it becomes too much hassle I go back to my old ways. I think it’s because I think about going “Green” as something drastic and extreme reserved for radical hippies. But maybe it’s not about transforming your whole life. Maybe it’s not about only using half a square of organic soybean toiletpaper. Maybe it’s about the little things. Any little thing. Today has been very motivating. Ok…I’ll shower once a month.

Oh man so cool!!
Got the Duran Duran call and they totally remembered the show we did on MMM a couple years back. I brought them from a sweet vip lounge through the bowels of Wembley to our spot on the gantry overlooking the pitch.
Lol. How posh!
It was an awesome moment. Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, Traci… Damien Rice singing that song from the Clive Owen movie (I can drop Clive or Joaquin into any story!)
Best moment of a weekend filled with great moments.
We did a great live hit and of course then watched while other jealous news crews came in like vultures!!
Haha it’s cool… Totally what I’d do too!

[How bout a guest entry from Eva Avila!]
Whatup peopuuulll!!!!
Well, I’m just over here at the MuchMusic building right now for an interview, as part of this huge and powerful event known as Live Earth.. ![]()
I think this is such an amazing idea, a wonderful way to get people’s attention in regards to saving our planet. Music being a universal language, it gets all kinds of people together to support a great cause. I think its impact speaks for itself, no doubt.
I mean, everyone in the world has thought about making a change, weather it’s joining a cause and making pledges, or just simply applying a couple of day-to-day things that can make a huge difference in the long-term. But the sad thing is, it’s not enough. Not yet anyway… We’re at the point where it’s urgent, it’s time to clean the world up FOR REAL, not just talk about it. We’ve already waited much too long to start taking the earth’s deterioration seriously. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!
So other than that, I’ve been keeping pretty busy with summer shows, spending some time at home in Gatineau with my family and buddies. I’m going to start co-writing real soon, with a bunch of talented peeps
for the next album. Apart from that, life is good! Trying to enjoy the summer as best as I can!!
You guys take care of yourself… and of our world! Please, always keep in mind that this is our HOME! It’s what we live in, it’s what our children and grand-children and grand-grand-children will grow up in… let’s make it nice and cozy and clean and sane for them shall we? ![]()
Luv
Mwah!

This guest entry brought to you by Liam from Toronto punkers Cancer Bats…
Hey what’s up my name’s Liam and I sing in a punk band called Cancer Bats from Toronto.
[After appearing on the CTV Live Earth broadcast tonight] I was asked to write something real quick about what I think of Live Earth - and to tell the truth, just me being asked to be on this program has made me really think about what I’m doing in my daily life to help the environment and what we can do as a band.
[Before our segment tonight] I was talking with Wade from the Rock N Roll sensations Alexisonfire and he and I were both talking about what our bands can do, even though the nature of touring is using gas every single day. We burn through fuel in order to travel all over the world to play shows - there’s really no way around that. What we both came up with was the idea of learning more about the companies that we buy gas from and the companies that make the vans we drive and finding out which companies and corporations actualy care about the environment.
Then, [we follow] it up by supporting only those companies that we feel are trying to make a difference and the ones that we know actually care. Everyone can get on the internet and do some research and find out more about the things we use on a daily basis. So there are no excuses for anyone reading this. Take the time, get yer Google on and make some good choices with your dollars!

We’ve been up for 32 hours. The hotel doesn’t serve hot food during the hours we can eat. There is nowhere to get a redbull… It’s 3am in london… Traci is on the air and looks amazing.
I spent way too long trying to remember how. To spell ‘amazing’
I think I’m most excited for beasties and D2
Genesis was awesome in rehearsal.
Phil collins solo I heart. Against all odds is my karaoke song. But this reunion is sooooo good. Land of confusion! Invisible touch! Does peter gabriel live in london?

We’re live from jersey! Dev and dan just did their first hello with the world and they couldn’t be more excited. They talked with robert craymer - a torontonian - a designer who uses eco friendly materials and not only designed the dressing rooms for the gores and bon jovi, but is in l.a. helping leo dicap “greenify” his pad. Just one of the many cool people we met here at liveearth.
