Fergie opens the 2007 MMVAs with a performance

9:00pm - Fergie is opening the show with a sweet performance of Big Girls Don’t Cry! She sounds pretty good! She just tore her hoodie off and revealed a sexay outfit underneath, and is now doing a medley of Fergalicious!

9:06pm - Here come the opening credits!

9:08pm - Alexisonfire are performing on the John Street stage. Wow, they sound incredible! I photographed these guys two MMVAs ago on this very stage and it was a total rush. How amazing does their stage setup look? And the Toronto skyline…wow. It’s already dark, too. This is getting better and better. Wow…crowd surfing AND confetti. I’m on the fifth floor of the CHUM building right now and TONS of confetti is flying by my window!!!!

9:13pm - Avril Lavigne just won the MMVA for Best International Video By A Canadian for Girlfriend. Yay!

9:20pm - Matte’s introducing Avril again, to present an award! MuchMoreMusic Award…the winner is…Nickelback!

9:24pm - Here’s Belly’s performance, featuring Ginuwine. Belly DID promise that this would be the performance of the EVENING. So watch and see! So far so good…sexy dancers…gaggles of female onlookers…string section…now they’re heading outside and they have a choir clad in white singing along!

9:33pm - Oh here comes Hedley again with their blowup doll! Nice, we just got a shot of a guy’s butt - must be Jacob’s standin since he’s not around to moon the crowd like he usually does. Nadine, MMVA SuperSTAR winner, just introduced Finger Eleven, who are performing on the rooftop - it’s the first time this has ever happened. Wowee, it looks RIDICULOUS!

9:43pm - Um. Perez Hilton is wearing a poncho. I don’t know what else to say about that!

9:57pm - Wow, you guys are enthusiastic commenters! I missed a few minutes of recaps just now cause I was busy catching up on approving your comments. We’ve had to shut down comments till the end of the show unfortunately - please keep reading/refreshing, and we will continue our discussion in the comments after the show
In the meantime - The Used are performing right now. That song that scares me The Bird & The Worm, I believe it’s called.

ALSO - earlier today, I forgot to mention that Ben of Billy Talent and I had an in-depth discussion about the show Lost. He described himself as a ‘borderline obsessive’ Lost fan. Heh. And I just walked by one of the offices and saw him rocking out on Guitar Hero 2. Cool!!

10:09pm - Amber Tamblyn is throwing to Hilary Duff! This should be good…With Love….nice trenchcoats. Wow, Hilary looks smokin’ hot! Kyle’s sitting beside me and his jaw is agape.

10:15pm - Best Rap Video Award…the winner is: Belly! Nice, first win of the night for him! I wonder if there will be more…

10:23pm - Jay Manuel is here to present People’s Choice - Favourite Canadian Artist, and it goes to…Avril Lavigne!!! And she is in tears! Holy emotional. She’s SUPER happy
10:27pm - Joss Stone just introduced Maroon 5, who are performing on the John Street stage. I don’t need to reiterate what has already been said: Adam Levine is sexay!!! They sound great!

10:33pm - Fan favourites Marianas Trench are presenting the award for People’s Choice Award - Favourite International Group…and the winner is My Chemical Romance! Congrats AGAIN MCR!

10:37pm - Tara Reid seems a bit subdued. Like, almost as if she’s…under the influence. OK…Billy Talent are about to perform! Yesss!

10:43pm - Hilary Duff just won People’s Choice Award - Favourite International Artist! I can’t stress how great “Hils” looks. Oh look, Leah and Hilary are having a lovefest on stage. They’re totally bff.

10:45pm - Sam Roberts is presenting People’s Choice Award - Favourite Canadian Group. The winner is…Billy Talent! The guys seem kinda shocked! oooh Ian is hurling confetti into the audience! Ben says “THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!” Indeed!

10:51 - Wow, we’re in the home stretch! Only nine minutes remaining! Fergie is presenting the award for Best Video! And the winner is…Billy Talent!

10:53 - SUM 41 are on stage, and guess who they’re introducing? Deryck just said it! Mrs. Whibley…aww, so cute! Will Avril drop an f-bomb? Ohhh…she said “mothereffing”. Good girl, Avril!

Being here at the MMVAs is an incredible experience. I remember watching MuchMusic as a kid, and I had this dream to be there… now I’m here, and it’s so surreal!

Everything has worked itself out.

This year I’m going to be starting my career in Japan. I’m working with a charity organization called Plan Canada, and will be in Haiti July 5th for a documentary to raise the awareness of child slavery… and my hope is to keep working hard, and to reach out to the people who support me as an artist.

Marianas Trench serve up subs on the red carpet

Hey guys, we’re here at the MMVAs! OK so remember the last time I wrote this, I challenged Brandon Flowers to a danceoff? Well, I just challenged Rihanna. Personally. Yep, this time this shit is ON!I think she’s down. She mentioned something about doing the, “Roger Rabbit.” Poor girl, she doesn’t even know what she’s getting into.

We were going to ride up to the red carpet on a tandem bike, but we broke it right before we got here. NOT SWEET. So we walked with a giant sandwich instead. The only part the weirded me out is when a homeless guy came up to me, asking for change. I was like, “hey, I’m walking here!!” Turns out it was just sam roberts, I think he was lost or something, I don’t know, I don’t speak French. But I’m sure Simple Plan are around here somewhere, hopefully they can straighten him out.

Anyways I got some more tomfoolery to get up to. That, and some serious high-jinks. I always prefer a good high-jink as opposed to a shananigan. Well, Watch for my hot dance moves when we present…

Hannah greets Adam Levine on the MMVA Red Carpet

Oooh…here we go! They stars are starting to make their way down the red carpet! Showtime!

7:30pm - OK, can I just say that Hannah & Devon, your red carpet hosts, look FIERCE? Hannah is wearing an uber hot lime green strapless dress with a bubble skirt and Devon’s decked out in Franz Ferdinand wear - a hot suit complete with skinny tie.

Ohh, Fergie’s the first one to arrive in some kind of special hybrid/electric car…the only one of its kind in North America?!

7:34pm - Sam Roberts (the band) just arrived and Sam’s prescribing a ‘couple of shots of tequila’ to award winners before they go on stage to ease their nerves! Yeep. Oh, and Fergie is still strutting her way down the red carpet but it’s taking a while cause there are lots of photo ops to be had.

7:36pm - The Used! Wow, Bert is carrrraaazy! He just jumped on Hannah! He’s wearing a hot white blazer to accompany the hot white car he arrived in. What a superstar…uh…who’s the dude with a giant box on his head?! Whoa - drummer Dan just dropped four f-bombs! Thank god for the disclaimers at the start of the show.

7:42pm - Back from commercial! Who’s gonna arrive next? A sexy white SUV just pulled up. Oh, it’s SUM 41, and they’re all swilling beer already! Steve-o’s being his sassy self, I see.

Oh, cut to an interview with Maroon 5…Adam Levine pretty much just said he wants to have sex with a woman on an airplane, cause he’s not a member of the mile high club yet…something tells me he won’t have a problem finding any willing ladies.

7:46pm - GIANT limo…who’s inside? Kardinal Offishall! Apparently he plans to thief some awards from winners tonight, if he doesn’t win any!

7:47pm - First award of the night! Best Post-Production goes to…Sam Roberts for Bridge To Nowhere! Keep your eyes peeled to this page for the full list of winners as they’re announced.

7:51pm - Maroon 5 just arrived in a giant black SUV! Adam looks HAWT. Yummy.

7:55pm - Classified is here! He just told Hannah he can’t wait to win another MMVA this year!

7:56pm - The award for Best French Video is being announced! And it’s Malajube! Ooooh…I am utterly in love with these guys, as you probably know by now. Well deserved, boys!

7:58pm - George is here! Oohhh…he has three MMVA nominations tonight. I wonder which/if he’s going to win? He looks pretty slick. He’s wearing all white with a black blazer and white trim. Super, super sharp.

8:00pm - VideoFACT Award winner Tokyo Police Club were just announced, and here they are! I really like these guys. A year ago they were virtually unknown and here they are now, selling out club gigs everywhere! They brought food for a ‘potluck’…what the hell?? “Pie for everybody!” Hahaha…they dedicated their award to Bob Barker! LOL!

8:12pm - Whoops, got a little distracted by Hilary Duff for a sec! Now Marianas Trench are here - they’re wearing tuxes and carrying a GIANT party sub! WTH? Wow…they brought the party. They’re handing out sub sandwiches to the crowd. Devon’s stuffing his face now!

8:14pm - Whoa…crazy hydraulics on these two cars. Alexisonfire, who else! Dallas just told Hannah that he’s gonna be recording a new City & Colour album in August…weee!

8:22pm - Best Cinematography Award! Alexisonfire just won for This Could Be Anywhere In The World.

8:24pm - Emilie De Ravin of Lost is having a wardrobe malfunction? Oooh her hair is super short! Apparently she gets asked about Lost plot secrets all the time…and she has just as little idea what’s gonna happen as viewers do. Heh.

8:25pm - Oooh…Graham of Tokyo Police Club’s DAD just commented on the blog! Happy Father’s Day my friend! Congrats to your son & crew for winning the VideoFACT MMVA!
8:28pm - Hedley just arrived, but they are sans Jacob Hoggard cause he’s in the studio recording some stuff! But they DID bring a blowup doll in his place! And drummer Chris Crippin just stuffed his face in its privates. Um, ew.

Commercial break - apparently Tara Reid is coming up next. Could there be a wardrobe malfunction? That would be way too predictable, I think!

8:34pm - Joss Stone has arrived and she looks amaaazing! So beautiful! She’s telling Devon how lucky she is to have collaborated with Ms. Lauryn Hill! She has a very cool accent…kinda quasi British/Australian, almost. Apparently she’s ordered Chinese takeout with TomKat?! Weiiird.

8:36pm - Best Director Award is being handed out! And the winner is…George - Lie To Me. RT! is the winner! Congrats
8:37pm - Nice old school cars! It’s Billy Talent! Wow, the crowd is going NUTS! Total clown car - the boys are just spilling out! They just arrived in Toronto directly from Vienna, Austria where they were playing a festival with Smashing Pumpkins.

8:41pm - Tara Reid just arrived, and she looks really great! No wardrobe malfunction to be seen!

8:43pm - Jay Manuel Eww…Jay. What are you doing?! What is that hat? Terrible, terrible choice. Moving along…oh wait. Nole Marin, but where’s his little dog accessory?

8:49pm - JDiggz just arrived! He says he’s working on an album called Memoirs Of A Playboy…sounds salacious. It’s coming out August 28!

8:51pm - Best International Video By A Group is being announced. And the winner is…My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade. Congrats MCR!

Wow, only 10 minutes left till the live show! Where are Avril and Nickelback?

8:56pm - Oh here she is! Avril Lavigne in a convertible! Looking adorable I’m sure she’d hate me if she heard me call her adorable…heh. Her hair is super, super long. Extensions? Oh, and she’s gonna be in a movie with Richard Gere? Acting, huh Avril?

8:58pm - And Nickelback are the final Red Carpet arrival! Nominated for FIVE awards. That’s totally insane. I wonder how many they will win…which do they most deserve?

Hello everyone, this is Aaron of Billy Talent! So we’ve all just arrived at MuchMusic headquarters for the MMVAs. Getting here was a bit of a challange but we made it! We just got off of a 16 day tour that took us to 10 different countries. We played with some unbelievable bands over the past few weeks: Muse, Linkin Park, Velvet Revolver, My Chemical Romance, Smashing Pumpkins, Iron Maiden, Incubus, and Mastodon are just a few.

Now we get to play in our amazing city and hang out with our friends in Alexisonfire. Their dressing room is across from ours and for some strange reason a giant rocket is set up in the middle of it.

We gotta go do soundcheck now! After that we will kidnap Claire from Lost (Emilie de Ravin) and find out how it ends.

Devon will then shave my head for the red carpet.

Avril rehearses on the main stage

That’s a wrap - well, for MMVA rehearsals at least! I just witnessed two kickass performances by Finger Eleven and Avril Lavigne! Backup dancers seem to be the new black, cause I saw scads of them today (Fergie, Belly, Hilary & Avril all had them)! Can’t wait to see the performances tomorrow when they bring it for REAL. See you tomorrow night for the MMVA Red Carpet Show @ 7:30pm ET!
