Pearl Jam Do The Evolution

pearljam-backspacer

September 20th marked the release of Pearl Jam’s ninth studio album ‘Backspacer’. From start to finish this album brings out some classic Pearl Jam and also shows a mature side to the alt grunge rockers. Clocking in at 37 minutes in length it is definitely their shortest album to date and there is no shortage of quality music on this album.

During their Toronto stop last month they played two new tracks, the single The Fixer and Got Some. Both tracks were received well by the crowd and listening to the tracks more, it’s no wonder why since they are both great tracks.

Brand New Delivers A Fresh Daisy

092209-daisy

If you are a Brand New fan it’s more than likely that you were (and still are) completely obsessed with The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (TDAGARIM) released in 2006. Let’s be serious, the album was an instant classic, and solidified what would continue to be a committal love affair with any and every future release put out by the band.

It seems like ions ago that TDAGARIM came out (why does Brand New always like to keep us hanging like that?) and in a way it has been. Three years later, Brand New has delivered what has to be one of the year’s most anticipated albums, Daisy. So the answer to the long awaited question is here. Was it worth the wait?

NEW MOON TAKES A BITE OUT OF INDIE

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

newmoon

The tracklist for the New Moon soundtrack was revealed yesterday (finally!) and bares both: the good and the bad (nothing involving RPats and Tay Tay could ever be ugly).

So, in with the good: THE SOUNDTRACK IS GOING TO BE TWI-MAZING (too much?) and out with the bad: RPatz will NOT be serenading you into an obsess-icoma this time around – well, at least not musically. Not to worry though, while he may not be on the tracklist for the New Moon soundtrack, this dreamy fang boat will still be on the album cover. So all’s not completely lost, right?

Tracklist after the jump!

Julian Casablancas Releases First Solo Single

Friday, September 18th, 2009

julian-casablancas

Since The Stokes’ last album First Impressions of Earth each member of The Strokes has released a solo album or worked on another project except for lead singer Julian Casablancas.

Well that has all changed. There has been a lot of talk about when Julian would release something on his own and the time has finally come. His debut album entitled Phrazes for the Young is due out in stores on October 20 and has released the first single today.

New Concept: Watch out for those Antlers!

091609-antlers

When it comes to the best concept albums of ghosts past, Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd), 2112 (Rush), Tommy (The Who) and Sea Change (Beck) are obvious contenders. But the problem with lists is they are always debatable, so let’s just leave this one open-ended. Oh, and let us agree (or agree to disagree) that American Idiot by Green Day is not invited to this particular list party. End Scene.

The Antlers album, Hospice (released in March 2009) is one that has flown under the radar of many music lovers (and at no surprise with Virgin Fest, Lollapalooza, and the Vans Warped Tour occupying music-related media at every corner the past few months). So while amazing bands like Grizzly Bear, The Cold War Kids, and Silverstein have had their fair share of spotlight – and deservingly so – it’s time to give The Antlers an elongated flash (oxymoron?). LIGHTS. CAMERA. SPOTLIGHT.

Less Is More When You’re A(head)

Almost two years ago, Radiohead welcomed a new experimental dawn with the introduction of their “pay-what-you-want” economic model when they released In Rainbows online and offered it to anyone who wanted listen – for free (with an option of leaving something in the post-modern tip jar).

After thousands of fans came knocking on Radiohead’s virtual door, and before the release of the physical album on Oct. 10, Radiohead was able to surpass the total income of their previous album Hail to the Thief.

So what about the fancy (and now poor) labels? They can still feel the aftershocks that quaked through the music world (suckers), as it remains flipped on its axis and looking for a way to cure the digital hangover.

But let’s get back to the point.

The XX Marks The Spot…

thexx

For new & fresh music that is. The XX are made up of four 20 something year-olds from London, England. I stumbled upon their single Basic Space which made me want to find out more about them, so I ventured over to their MySpace.

After listening to them all of yesterday and most of today, I’ve come to the conclusion that The XX brings a breathe of fresh air into what’s been a slow summer for music. They have that sound where you can put them on and just relax while listening to them.

Give them a listen and let me know what you think.
