Celebrities React to the Biggest Oscar Snubs

January 18th, 2014

It’s that time of year again. It’s officially Oscar season. The smell of sequins, awkward speeches, and nipple pasties are in the air. Yesterday, the Oscar nominations were announced and while the nominees were skipping down the street in joy, the rest of us were crying on the inside about all of the Oscar snubs. Yeah, we take award shows very seriously. So here’s our list of Oscar snubs complete with celebrity reactions.

Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips and Saving Mr. Banks
How could the Academy diss Tam Honks? It’s no exaggeration that he’s one of the best actors in Hollywood. I mean, have you seen his stellar performance in Larry Crowne? Jk. Captain Phillips and Saving Mr. Banks are up there with Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Cast Away. Academy, what are you smoking?

Amy agrees.

Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson in Her
We can’t totally hate here because Her was nominated for multiple awards including Best Picture and Writing. But no nominations for Joaquin or Scarlett? I mean, come on.

Kanye’s got his bitch face on.

Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station
We’re all huge fans of Friday Night Lights and Michael B. Jordan right? Right. So how could this true story of a 22-year-old man who was wrongly shot by the police be overlooked?

Jack Black is pissed ya’ll.

Inside Llewyn Davis
The Coen brothers new film, Inside Llewyn Davis got majorly snubbed by the Academy. No nomination for Best Picture? No nomination for Actor in a Lead Role? Not even a nomination in Music? Where’s the love?

This is how the Coen Brothers feel right now.

Frances Ha
I might be alone on this one but Frances Ha was one of my favourite films of the year. Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig can do no wrong. I guess it’s too cool and too indie for the Academy. Boo!

Lame indeed.

Blackfish and Stories We Tell
Two stand out documentaries this year: Blackfish, which tells the story of the devastating consequences of keeping killer whales in marine parks and Stories We Tell, by Canadian filmmaker Sarah Polley who uncovers the myths and secrets in her family. I guess the Oscars don’t care about animals or Canadians.

Stephanie isn’t holding her feelings back. You go girl.

And that’s that. There’s our list of Oscar snubs. We can’t wait to see your list of the snubs we left out, probably titled, 5 Films Much Snubbed From Their Oscar Snub List.
