I think there’s a resurgence in hip hop and no, it doesn’t come from the south west coast of California or the gritty streets of New York. No, it comes from the birth of grunge, the crispy fresh north west of Washington. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are a rapper and producer duo from Seattle and they have been blowing up the internet with their tracks Same Love, Thrift Shop, and Can’t Hold Us.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ self-released debut album The Heist opened at the #2 spot on the Billboard Top 200. The Heist also went straight to the #1 spot on the Digital, Rap, R&B and New Artists charts as well as hit the #2 spot on the Indie and Internet chart.
What makes Macklemore and Ryan Lewis such an amazing duo and what makes them completely special in their own right is that they have picked specific and important issues to rap about in their music and marries them with infectious and incredible beats that will make you groove and feel exactly how they want you to feel. Check out their song Same Love which tackles issues like marriage equality or their track 10,000 Hours which talks about bring consistently on the grind to achieve your dream. Or simply check out Thrift Shop which is the funniest rap song about (you guessed it) going thrifting.
Check out the video for Thrift Shop featuring Wanz here and tell us what you think in the comments section!
