It’s actually dangerous

Canadian musician/producer/entertainer extraordinaire Chilly Gonzales knows what goes into a hit song. Having worked with everyone from Feist to Daft Punk and even Drake, Gonzales has helped create some modern classics.
In a video series for the German radio station 1Live, Gonzales puts his musical genius to work as he breaks down and deconstructs some of today’s biggest pop songs and explains just why they’re so successful. This time, he tackles Iggy Azalea’s chart-topper, Fancy.
“I’m not sure I ’like’ this song, but I am convinced it is a masterpiece in reduction,” he prefaces. Gonzales uses music theory to examine the catchiness of the song by explaining syncopation, bass lines and its similarities to some other well-known songs. It’s a genuinely fascinating look into the inner workings of a song and quite the entertaining music lesson!
