Christina Aguilera to perform at the American Music Awards

The Voice’s Christina Aguilera is the first performer announced for the 2012 American Music Awards. In addition to performing, Aguilera was on hand to announce the nominations today at J.W. Marriott Los Angeles, next to the Nokia Theatre where the show is set to take place on November 18.

Rihanna and Nicki Minaj lead the nominee list with four nominations each, while Drake, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, One Direction and Usher all scored three nominations. Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, fun., Gotye, J. Cole, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan and Pitbull are all nominated for two awards each.

This year’s nominees for Artist of the Year include Rihanna, Bieber, Drake, Maroon 5 and Katy Perry, while new artist contenders include J. Cole, fun., Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen and One Direction.
