Miley, Charlie and more!
February 7th, 2014
This week, the Juno Awards announced its nominees and performers and we were not only stoked to see our fave artists like Arcade Fire and Serena Ryder rack up the nods, but we were super excited to see who will take the stage on March 30.
But today, singer-songwriter Dallas Green a.k.a. City & Colour has pulled out of the award show, stating that he wanted to give new artists the chance to perform — especially because he wasn’t nominated this year.
Read Green’s statement below:
I have had the pleasure of performing on the JUNO Awards many times and have been honoured by the recognition I’ve received over the years. I’ve performed with Alexisonfire, as City and Colour and as part of a tribute to one of my musical heroes. Not a lot of people get a chance to say that. Given that I have not been nominated this year, I would much rather see a new nominee be afforded the opportunity to perform on the show and have the same experience.
I’m sorry to disappoint anyone hoping to see me perform next month, however, I will be back in Winnipeg at the MTS Centre in May as part of my cross Canada tour. I will see you then!
Although we are deeply saddened to see Green withdraw, he does make a good point about allowing new artists the opportunity to be on that big stage and this year does have an incredible list of fresh-faced talent.
So, our question for you is: who do you think would be a great replacement for City & Colour? Let us know in the comment section now!
Here are some suggestions:
Tyler Shaw (nominated for Breakthrough Artist of the Year)
Born Ruffians (nominated for Breakthrough Group of the Year)
The Darcys (nominated for Alternative Album of the Year)
SonReal (nominated for Rap Recording of the Year)Tweet
