A private memorial for DJ AM will take place Thursday evening at the Palladium nightclub in Los Angeles. The format of the memorial will resemble that of a 12-step meeting to acknowledge the DJ’s struggle with addiction. AM, aka Adam Goldstein, was sober for 11 years and working on an MTV reality show to help other addicts at the time of his death. No word whether or not the show will still air.
In a posting on the DJ’s myspace page, his family has asked that people not send flowers to the memorial. They encourage mourners to make donations to his favourite charities, including a drug treatment center for women.
Goldstein allegedly died of an overdose last Friday though autopsy results have not been released. A recent article by People magazine implies that he commited suicide, claiming a Police source told them the DJ had quickly ingested 9 OxyContin pills before his death.
But DJ AM’s publicist has spoken out against the People magazine allegation. She refers to Adam Goldstein’s death as nothing more than a ‘tragic accident.’ She calls the allegations “meritless.”
Meanwhile, Blink-182 have cancelled two more shows this week in the wake of Goldstein’s death. In a posting on Mark Hoppus’ blog, a statement says that drummer Travis Barker needs more time to “mourn the loss of his dear friend Adam Goldstein.” The shows have been rescheduled for later this month.
