Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto must translate into concert of the decade. The magic of the night’s evening was palpable as the Grammy winning band hit the stage literally moments after a day of non-stop rain did indeed stop. The air was warm, the energy was high, and the crowd was ready for the biggest band in the world. And boy, they were ready for us.
Playing seven songs from their October 24 release Mylo Xyloto, fans danced to the new tracks and sang to the heavens along with favourites like Yellow, Clocks, and The Scientist. Since the death of Amy Winehouse this year the band has formed a habit of playing her hit Rehab at the beginning of Fix You and Wednesday night was no exception.
Illuminating the sky throughout the night with perfectly timed fireworks to match the bands colourful new album cover, Coldplay remained as humble as ever, repeatedly thanking the crowd and those watching at home with all four members stopping to applaud the audience for singing along to their songs.
For those who had seen Coldplay in concert before they knew that this was a musical experience unlike any other. No matter how many times one sees Coldplay in concert it’s nearly impossible to be able to hold on to the memory of just how incredible they are to watch live. People crowding Queen St. West for the first time in front of the four Brits and around their tv and computer screens were in a for a surprise, as the band delivered a flawless performance. Fans of Coldplay know that singer Chris Martin is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining front men to watch, dancing and joking about now being old enough to call Justin Bieber his son.
While the hour long special seemed all too short as the night came to a close, the four members of Coldplay, including Martin, Johnny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, took their three bows as a group and graciously exited the stage for the evening, leaving behind a lasting impression on all who came, saw and were changed.
