Miley, Charlie and more!
February 26th, 2014
It’s been reported that Rihanna is working on a concept album inspired by the upcoming DreamWorks animated film, Home. There’s a huge difference between providing the soundtrack and actually constructing a concept album and many aren’t sure Rihanna can pull it off. She hasn’t released a record since 2012′s Unapologetic. We’ll give her the benefit of the doubt.
Here are some concept albums we can’t stop listening to.
Arcade Fire, The Suburbs
The album’s concept is centred on the suburbs, and the trappings of living in the good ol’ suburban sprawl.
Kendrick Lamar, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City
Kendrick’s debut album tells the story of his teenage years in the drug-infested streets of Compton.
Green Day, American Idiot
The first punk-rock opera of the new millennium is all about a man named Jesus of Suburbia.
Janelle Monae, The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III)
The concept is a love-lorn robot travelling back in time to free the future.
Fucked Up, David Comes to Life
The album is an epic love story set against the backdrop of the struggling rich and poor of ’80s Britian.
Plan B, The Defamation of Strickland Banks
The album is about a fictional soul singer, Strickland Banks, who gets sent to prison.
Technically, Beyoncé’s self-titled isn’t a concept album, but the music videos tell a journey through the thoughts and visions of Beyoncé. We can argue about this later.
