Kate Nash performed at Mod Club last night, and to get there I took ye olde street car. If one had not known exactly where the Mod Club stop was, one would just have to pay attention to when no less than eight girls, all dressed in adorable H&M/Forever 21 outfits, de-boarded in a pack.

By the time Kate took to the stage, the room was sardined to capacity. It was her first time in Canada, and her first show back from the holidays – she sounded awesome. Yuh huh, the girl’s got chops.

The audience provided pretty decent back-up vocals when singing along to “Mouthwash”, “Foundations” and “Dickhead”, but overall they weren’t too boppy. But they WERE appreciative, and Kate seemed to really take the loud cheers to heart, looking overwhelmed and saying, “no really – thank you. You’ve really raised the bar.” It was super cute and I kind of wanted to eat tea and crumpets with her.

I think what made the show good (for me) was her exuberance onstage. Toward the end, she looked like she was having the BEST TIME EVER and her face was plastered with a huge perma-smile. She announced that she’d “definitely be back” and launched into the happiest, most keyboard poundiest version of “Merry Happy” you could ever hope for.
