As Kate most beautifully said in a previous blog (see?), there is a fine art to covering music. Covers covered well are great. Covers covered badly are beyond shit: (this!) DAMNIT BRITNEY.
Here are some of the great variety:
Pomplamoose – “Mrs. Robinson” [listen]
This duo does some mean covers, but this has to be my favourite. I lahv her voice, his guitar skillz… but I can’t get over that mole. Normally I don’t mind them, but .. er. Yeah.
Scissor Sisters – “Take Me Out” [listen]
I think I almost prefer this acoustic version over the orig. This is sorta great. They did Alex proud. Gets amazemaze at around 1:45.
Paramore – “Use Somebody” [listen]
Much, much, muchitty, much better than the original. Hayley will make you melt.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker” [listen]
Straight off of the War Child Heroes album, YYYs cover The Ramones prettaaay, preeettaaaaayy, prettty well here.
Weezer – “Kids/Poker Face” [listen]
Not amaaazzinggg, but still a really fun one. You know that when a band can pull off a mashuppy cover like this, they gotsta been pretty great. And yes, you’re free to make fun of Rivers mixing up the years 2008 and 2009. HAH!!!
So kiddies. Take these home with you. Snack on them. They’re treats. Delicious treats.
