Kat just sent me tour dates for the following bands: Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Sixx:A.M. & Trapt. When I saw it I was a bit confused at the fact that they are all playing on the same day and at the same venue. Then I got the the press release for, wait for it, CRÜE FEST 2008!
Yup, that’s right: Mötley Crüe will be headlining their own so-called ‘festival’ this summer with what apparently is ‘the next generation’s rock superstars’. I hate to say it but I don’t believe that Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Trapt and Sixx:A.M. are the next generation of rock superstars.
Actually the lineup wouldn’t be so bad if they decided to tour about 5-7 years ago when both Papa Roach and Trapt had hit singles and the guys from Mötley Crüe were younger!
Also I find it a bit weird why they chose to call it a festival. To me a music festival is more than one day, at least longer than 7 hours, and includes more than just 5 bands!
But anywho, for all you Mötley Crüe fans who are ready to pay the likes of $92.50 + service fees for some of these shows, here are the Canadian tour dates:
August 11 @ GM Place, Vancouver
August 13 @ Rexall Place, Edmonton
August 14 @ Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary
August 15 @ Credit Union centre, Saskatoon
August 17 @ MTS Centre, Winnipeg
August 28 @ Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto
UPDATE: I just did some more digging around and found out that the Crüe have a new album coming out in the summer entitled Saints of Los Angeles which is most likely the reason for the tour. Also Sixx:A.M. was formed by Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx and their debut album is entitled The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack. Strangely enough the album is based on Mr.Sixx’s book The Heroin Diaries. Here’s the link to buy the book.

The dude who wrote this still seems upset that Nirvana is no more! lol
The Crue lives!!! Deal with it!
@Kevin: I never once mentioned that I didn’t like The Crue, I have their greatest hits and actually enjoy it. I was just surprised at the line-up for the show and the fact that they called it a ‘fest’ when its not.
Sounds like you should have done your homework prior to posting your original comment…then you would have known the background about the new album and Nikki’s connection to Sixx AM (jeez the name didn’t tip you off?).
You forget the Crue had a very successful tour in 2005. The Feb 2005 Toronto gig was sold out! I think Crue Fest is a great idea and will give us a chance to see a great variety of bands for a decent price. This tour will do well!
From dictionary.com Fest - A gathering or occasion characterized by a specified activity. Often used in combination: a music fest;
Sounds like its a “fest” to me.
Again a little research would have shown you Crue fest is a name owned by the crue for some time. Makes sense to me that eventually they would use it for a tour….
Alberto, you are a dumb SOB aren’t ya? You are chatting about one of the greatest rock bands of all time on a site that plays predominantly rap (crap), emo, pop and W.E.T.F that Rihanna stuff is. The executive summary is that your opinion is s**t but try and not be an ass when “reporting” something. Oh wait, did you slag on the old farts from Led Zep when they did their one off tour? Or how about when U2 tours. Oh wait, I know, you beat up on the Police when they started their reunion
Hey Motleyman, I think you’re getting the site confused with the station. Maybe take that anger out on cleaning your parents’ basement.
@Laura: Don’t get me wrong, I think the tour is great and will probably do well too, but I just think they could have had a better line-up. Also, the whole ‘fest’ thing is a personal opinion, I feel that a true ‘fest’ involves more bands, more than one stage and is longer than a day.
@Motleyman1973: Where do I start… I never once denied that Motley Crue are a great band and are probably great live! Like I said in my previous comment, I actually have their greatest hits and enjoy listening to it, so in no means was I ever ragging on Motley Crue. I would never ’slag’ on Led Zeppelin as they are one of my favourite bands of all time! U2 are great and The Police are legends.
You guys are clearly missing the point of this blog, I just felt the need to talk about how it has an odd line-up of bands and that I personally don’t think it should be called a ‘fest’.
Alberto
You’re comment on Papa Roach and Buckcherry not having any hits is very stupid. Both bands put out albums last year and are still touring in support of their albums.
Cruefest is just a name, such as Ozfest.
You claim you have the Crue best of cd , you’re missing out on alot more great music done by Motley Crue and you shouldn’t be calling them old as well , these guys are legends. Much Music used to be cool back when they had shows like the Power Hour and now Much has nothing but crap. Much More music is even worse getting all their stuff from VH1.
I was at three Motley shows in 2005 and they all sold out, maybe you should get a ticket to Cruefest and you’ll see how you just put your foot in your mouth.
Unbelievable! Generally, you want to do the research before writing the paper. lol.
In case some of you haven’t noticed, the selection of great bands today, are minimal.
Atleast we have a Summer w/ MOTLEY CRUE.
Let’s get lots of digital soundboards of these Summer shows, fans. Let’s Do IT!
@Wendy: Hit a nerve did I? Listen, go play your Rihanna and Fiddy Cent crap and leave the rock and roll debate to fans of real music. “Ciao Baby” (BTW, thats from a great song called “Edie, Cia Baby by a great band called the Cult. Maybe ask your older brother or dad play you the ALBUM)
We all know there’s no such thing as bad press so this meaningless article written by someone who is ignorant regarding the subject matter should not ruffle anyone’s feathers. No point wasting your time trying to convince Alberto of his erroneous ways. Rock on Alberto and keep writing about the Crue!
IN OTHER NEWS: I highly recommend the book “The Dirt”. It’s SO good.
Also, I used to love Tommy Lee so, so much. Back in the Nona/Shout At The Devil/Smokin’ In The Boys’ Room days
Agreed with Kat.. Dirt is one of the best, trashiest music exposes I’ve read.
@Wendy: that is the smartest thing I heard you say today
@Kat: no love for Tommy now? LOL
