Last night I checked out hugely-buzzed Toronto duo Crystal Castles, who are finally getting around to making a mark on their hometown after nearly a year of globetrotting. Last year at around this time when Klaxons were in town, they were totally namedropping them since they were on tour together. And in every issue of NME, at least one performance pic includes some British buzz band wearing the Crystal Castles’ Madonna tshirt (this one).

The pic above was taken by the uber-talented David Waldman (aka Kid With Camera) at Crystal Castles’ Thursday night show, for which Health did not open, but which was essentially the same setup - Alice was wearing pretty much the same outfit last night and the crowd was equally spastic. Now it’s true that the spastic effect was enhanced greatly by a strobe light that was going for 100% of the show…but still. People were LOVING it. And Crystal Castles sounded TERRIFIC. They had a live drummer, and a great mix of songs (some instrumental ones that I hadn’t heard before)…and they played for 40 minutes, compared to last year when they played at The Social with Thunderheist. Oh, and everybody has a crush on Alice Glass.

Their debut album’s release date got pushed back from late February to March 18 and is being released by Last Gang. I kinda wish they had offered the album for sale at the show last night, in advance - CC are embarking on a 25+ date North American tour and it would have been a nice bonus for the fans.

If you didn’t get to see the pair of shows this time around, don’t worry cause they’ll be back on March 28 at Circa! Don’t miss them live…it’s really a sight to behold!
