Canada has its share of music festivals and conferences, but there’s something about the Halifax Pop Explosion that makes it unique. Maybe it’s because the fest began during the titular happening in the early ’90s, when bands like Sloan, Jale, The Super Friendz and Thrush Hermit, among others, became the hottest bands in the country. With 150 bands playing in 20 venues over five days to over 20,000 fans, Damian and The Wedge team traveled out east to see just what all the buzz was about this year, in its 20th anniversary.
On tonight’s episode, Damian takes us around Halifax to some local hotspots, speaks at the conference about the records that saved his life, and interviews Zola Jesus, Ceremony, Black Lips, The Super Friendz and Career Suicide.
The Wedge airs every Wednesday at 11:30 PM EST. Follow us on Twitter at @MUCHTheWedge.
