Well, this is the time of year where everyone that has to return to school has begun to settle into the fact that they have to face another year of this reality. My enthusiasm for school varied greatly from year to year… Actually, more like day to day. Sometimes I loved it and, like everyone else, other times I couldn’t wait for that bell to ring and the day to end. When I got into punk rock I began to separate my extracurricular life from my school life: hanging out less with the kids from school and more with the new kids I was meeting going to punk shows. As I got older I looked at school more and more like a job that I would punch in and out of each day. I think this gave me hope for a post-high school life. It gave me perspective to realize that while it has huge impact it is only really in your life for four measly years and then it is done.
Now high school is a distant memory for me. All the bullshit that bummed me out about school is but a distant memory. The point I’m trying to make is this time of year high school can seem unending but remember it is four short years and then you can blow that pop stand.
