Sneak peek of Crazy, Cupid, Love!
March 10th, 2008

The pseudo-celebs LOVE them their Dance Crews. Last week Miley Cyrus and Hayden Panettiere were in the audience – this week Brody Jenner and Robin Antin (along with her grating choreographing minion Mikey) showed their support.
After the perfectly coiffed Mario Lopez does his lil’ introductions, we learn that Episode 5 of America’s Best Dance Crew is all about Michael Jackson and his Thriller album (which had its 25th Anniversary release earlier this year). The show gets underway with Status Quo up first!
Part 1 – Status Quo
Song: “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”

Status Quo… status quo… what to say about Status Quo….? They were aiight. They threw in a few of Michael Jackson’s signature moves, they threw in a bunch of their own signature flips and stunts, but overall? Kind of meh. What they just did, they did it well, but it definitely lacked that “wow” factor. I have an inkling the judges will agree. (Oh – and those two guys from this group who auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance back in the day, did the same move here that they did there – the “Coffee Grind.” Clearly, I’m not impressed).
Shane: “Fellas! I see where y’all are going but y’all have to remember you’re imitating The King, OK? So y’all have to be way more intense. Y’all have to be flawless right now and I can’t stress that enough.”
Lil Mama: “When y’all came out here I was excited. But you got lost.”
JC: “You guys took it as a battle. The stunts are always spectacular. My only concern is that overall as a group I would say the dance routines off the top and in the middle, they were a bit stiff. This is a dance competition and that has to be the part that shines through. But as a group you guys represented yourselves well.”
Part 2 – JabbaWockeeZ
Song: “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)”

Stel-Lar! JabbaWockeeZ does it again. If I didn’t know any better, these guys have this competition signed, sealed and delivered. But then again, I don’t know better. But I found this routine to be straight up fun and simple – yet it looked amazing. And that crotch grab? Hilarious! Is there anything these boys CAN’T do?! Judges?
JC: “Here’s the deal: Usually I come at you guys, picking at little things. This week? I really can’t pick on you this week. You showed up with a little bit of everything. It was a great performance by the JabbaWockeeZ.”
Lil Mama: “That’s what I’m talking about. You never forget that it’s a fight. You never forget that you’re in a competition. I love that about y’all. Y’all came out here and I felt like I was watching Michael Jackson, but I never, ever forgot that I was watching the JabbaWockeeZ.”
Shane: “Way to represent – good job. I loved it.”
Part 3 – Kaba Modern
Song: “Thriller”

Hehehe. This made me laugh – but in a good way. Yes, I feel they maybe played it a bit safe. I mean, when you have a song like “Thriller” that EVERYONE knows the famous dance moves for, it might be the wrong move to take it down a bit, to make it smaller. But it’s a risk that I feel pays off for Kaba Modern. By putting their Thriller in the future, and layering it with their robotic moves, it seemed pretty cool and fresh, yet familiar. I liked it. Judges?
Lil Mama: “Y’all killed it. Y’all did your thing. Seriously.”
Shane: “Kaba Modern, ya’ll are the future. I hope everybody watch and learn from ya’ll cause y’all just taking everything to another level. I loved it. Perfect show. Thank you.”
JC: “This challenge for you guys was the intricate footwork and you guys handled it very well. You still did it Kaba’s way – it was very intricate. It was ridiculous. The only thing I would say is i would raise the energy level maybe next week, but it was great.”
Part 4 – Fysh n Chicks & BreakSk8
Fysh n Chicks
Song: “Billie Jean”

Fysh n Chicks, I haven’t been the biggest fan of ye as of late and thought it was pure tragedy that last week you got to stay in the competition over the amazing performance that Live In Color gave. However this week, this may have been your best performance yet! Thank you for showing me why you still deserve to be in this competition. Even if you leave this week (which you might, considering you’ve been on the bottom week after week) you’d be leaving on a very high note. I thought that was tight!
BreakSk8
Song: “Beat It”

Ha! Well, you can tell everyone this week has been having an absolute blast! I wouldn’t say this was BreakSk8′s best performance, but overall it was awesome. They looked great, made the MJ moves work for them on their skates, but most of the crew took a backseat during this performance, bringing down the momentum of the performance, and I feel that that will probably cost them in the end. But man – these guys are always fun to watch. Ugh – It pains me to say it, but I think this is the end for BreakSk8.
Lil Mama: “Fysh n Chicks – this was one of the most high energy performances that I have seen tonight. You girls did it like men – and I respect that.”
JC: “BreakSk8 – I know that every week we say ‘that was your best performance yet,’ ‘that was your best performance yet’ – well, that was your best performance yet. You guys danced like superstars tonight.”
Shane: “Everybody did great tonight – it was perfect. This is going to be the hardest decision ever because both of y’all came with it.”
Hm – I take it all back. I think this is the week that Fysh n Chicks need to go home. They’ve been scraping at the bottom for too long now. Gah! You’re right Shane – this IS hard.
And the results… BreakSk8 stays!
Fysh n Chicks have been skinned and filleted and will be served with dill and butter! (Ok – I guess the “fish” puns don’t always work).
