Part of the appeal of watching award shows is catching celebs off guard (and on-air) as they react to the show. Remember Drake’s sad face during Miley Cyrus’ infamous MTV Video Music Awards performance? Or every Rihanna side eye shot, like, ever?
Last night’s Grammy Awards was no different. From Taylor Swift’s shocked-that-she-didn’t-win face (pretty similar to her shocked-that-she-won face, to be honest) to Beyonce and Jay Z’s awkwardness while Jamie Foxx practically drooled over Bey, the evening was filled with golden GIF moments. But the moments that deserved their own awards were the artists dancing during the performances. Admit it, you totally loved it every time they cut to a famous musician dancing like they were the drunk uncle at a relative’s wedding.
But these are professional performers! They should have the best of moves; after all, if they can’t dance, what hope do we have? So, we decided to put these famous musicians to the test — the Dancing With the Stars (at the Grammys) test. Take a look below and see how we ranked these dance moves from last night.
The Aerosmith singer busted out some serious moves with his retro arm-rollin’ action. A bit old school, and he could’ve hurt someone around him (Marc Anthony?), but he definitely gets points for originality. The ultimate drunk uncle of the evening.
Leave it to Yoko Ono to pull out the peace signs while dancing. Classy, classic and just flat-out awesome. We can only hope that we’ll grow up to dance like her at future events.
Okay, so Lorde can’t dance. But, her twitching claw thing counts as a signature dance move, right?
Katy Perry starts off with some head-bobbing action, which is a little disappointing but then BAM: she really gets into it with the dance move that we’ve all surely done at a show or two. In fact, that’s a go-to move and we’re giving kudos to Katy for proudly rockin’ a basic move like that.
And bonus points for her witch broom dance during her performance.
Come on, Ringo. You can do better than just clapping along.
That GIF below is a little sped up, but that just makes it all the more memorizing. The snap-and-bob action is a little basic, but he’s a Beatle. He can do whatever the eff he wants, okay?
Jay Z and Beyonce
We don’t know what’s going on here, but we’re okay with this. It’s no #Surfboard, but they already performed earlier on that night, they didn’t need to bust out any more moves. You two are excused.
Oh, and a million bonus points for #SURFBOARD.
Ah, Taylor Swift. Our golden girl of award show dance parties. No one went as hard as she did last night and even though these aren’t award-winning moves, we give her the trophy for good effort. Never stop trying to dance, Taylor. Never.
