September 4th, 2013
It looks like I’m finally going to have to give up my Dancing With The Stars-free existence. Not only is the show going from two episodes per week to the much more manageable one episode every Monday night starting September 16, but the casting for Season 17 is amazing. Insane, but amazing.
Starting this fall, Bill Nye The Science Guy will share a stage with Jersey Shore’s Snooki and Saved By The Bell’s Jessie Spano.
This year’s line up also includes Pretty Little Liar’s villain Brant Daugherty (Noel Kahn for my PLL peeps), reality star Jack Osborne, Glee’s Amber Riley and recently ex-Scientology member Leah Remini. Here’s our best guess at how well these Stars will fare on the dancing show.
Bill Nye the Science Guy with new dancer Tyne Stecklein
I’m picturing some Weird Science-type experiment that will help Nye become the world’s greatest dancer. That Mirror Ball is totes his.
Brant Daugherty (Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives), with Peta Murgatroyd
I’m not sure about Daugherty’s dancing skills, but I am sure that he’ll be able to werk his way around the black dance pants all the men wear.
Jack Osbourne, reality TV star, with Cheryl Burke
Osbourne isn’t letting his 2012 diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis slow him down. The former star of Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie looks like he’s still in fighting, or dancing, shape and we know he should have rhythm in his blood thanks to dad Ozzy. I’m think we’ll see Osbourne through to the halfway point.
Bill Engvall (The Bill Engvall Show) with former troupe member Emma Slater
Comedian Bill Engvall is famous for his comedy show and for being a part of the Blue Collar Comedy group. I don’t recall much dancing experience in either.
Keyshawn Johnson, former NFL wide receiver, with Sharna Burgess
For those who aren’t familiar with Keyshawn Johnson’s NFL career, he’s the guy who yelled at Justin Bieber for driving too fast in their neighborhood. Swaggy. I give him until Week 5.
Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), with Karina Smirnoff
The D in Disney also stands for Dance. I expect to see Corbin well into the final weeks.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi (Jersey Shore), with former troupe member Sasha Farber
Before Snooki was stumbling around the Jersey Shore and giving us some of the simultaneously worst and best moments in television history, she was a high school cheerleader. Having slimmed down and gotten back into shape after having her first child, I think the Snookster has a chance to make it to the finals.
Christina Milian, singer/actor, with Mark Ballas
Before she worked as the backstage host on The Voice, Christina Milian was a pop singer, though her dancing background is limited. She has rhythm, but does she have the moves? I’m giving her until Week 6.
Elizabeth Berkley (Saved By The Bell), with Val Chmerkovskiy
Jessie Spano is coming for that Mirror Ball, y’all.
Amber Riley (Glee), with Derek Hough
Now that she’s gone from a regular to recurring character on Glee, singer Amber Riley has some extra time on her hands. If the rumours about the long hours and extreme rehearsals on the set of Glee are true, Riley should be in good shape to deal with the demands of Dancing With The Stars. I give her until Week 9.
Leah Remini (King of Queens), with Tony Dovolani
Leah Remini has enjoyed a long career in Hollywood and recently made headlines for leaving the controversial Church of Scientology. Remini’s finishing position in the competition may give viewers some insight into just how far the arm of L. Ron Hubbard reaches.
