Datarock @ Kool Haus – check out more pics
On Saturday night as part of the Red Bull Academy series, I checked out the triple threat of Holy Fuck, Datarock & M.I.A. at Kool Haus. It was an utter sweatfest – it got SO hot inside the already poorly ventilated venue, but what with the nonstop dance party, it became close to unbearable!
Mercifully it was well worth it, as there were three action-packed hours of dancetastic tunes to look forward to. Holy Fuck sounded terrific and their new stuff is really atmospheric and less dance-y than the older tunes. You absolutely must acquire their new album LP when it comes out tomorrow!
Now you may think you don’t know who Norway’s Datarock are, but if you’ve played a video game (NHL 08, FIFA 08 or NBA Live 08) or turned on a TV (Coca Cola Ad) in 2007 you’ve most definitely heard Fa Fa Fa. Watch the video here for a refresher.
Anyhoodle, Datarock took the stage just after 10pm and kicked off a blistering set of jammy tunes, danceoffs and crowd singalongs. Call me kitsch, but I totally love uniformity when it comes to band wardrobes – all four members were decked out in matching red “Datarock” jumpsuits and slick sunglasses. And they had really cool AV accompaniments throughout their set – I just love their album art.
The closing track (Fa Fa Fa, natch) lasted for what seemed like ten minutes…by this point people were getting restless and wanted to get their dance on…so there was definitely a dance fever in the air by the time M.I.A. took the stage with Bamboo Banger.
Oh! And the boys ended their set by pumping the duet (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life, which you’ll recognize from the DIRTY DANCING soundtrack, through the speakers. Soooo amazing to slow dance to. Definitely don’t miss these guys if you have a chance to see them at a venue near you!
