Yes, you read that correctly. Gangnam Style is still making headlines in 2013. David Grohl made some surprising confessions during a 50-minute music discussion yesterday at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Among the unexpected revelations made by The Foo Fighters front man was his love for the Psy song that feels so last year.
While most people have already moved onto the Harlem Shake, Grohl still has love for 2012’s guilty pleasure song of the year. “I can truthfully say out loud that Gangnam Style is one of my favourite songs of the past decade,” proclaimed Grohl about the song that became YouTube’s most watched video of all time.
The former drummer for the legendary 90s band, Nirvana, also made self-deprecating comments about his own music. “Am I the best drummer in the world? Certainly not,” said Grohl. On his current band, he said, “Foo Fighters is the stupidest f*cking name.”
Grohl used the festival as a forum to promote his new documentary, Sound City: Real to Reel, about the famous L.A. site, Studio City. It was the recording studio used to record classic albums by Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young and Nirvana.
Promotional work aside, Grohl also performed last night with his band, Sound City Players, at the Stubbs. The three hour and 20-minute concert featured special guests Stevie Nick, Rick Springfield and John Fogerty.
What are your thoughts on Grohl’s new confessions? Do you still still jam to Gangnam Style when nobody is watching?
