Degrassi Episode 21: Fiona says relax

Fiona begins to self-medicate when her past catches up with her, Riley makes the big statement he’s been aiming for and Adam finds a surprising new friend. *Spoiler alert in this recap! If you missed tonight’s episode you can watch it here and read the last episode recap here!

Just when Fiona was starting to settle into life back at Degrassi her past catches up with her. Fiona’s charges against Bobby are now going to trial and she’ll have to testify about the assault.

Watching a video of Bobby’s deposition brings back a flood of bad memories for Fiona and her insecurities about her mental state start flaring up.

Fiona’s therapist has recommended that she start taking medication to help with her anxiety, but Fiona seems more intent on self-medicating with alcohol.

Fiona offers to help Holly J and Sav with the upcoming dance and suggests a Monte Carlo theme. Holly J and Sav love the idea, but Mr. Simpson tells them that now they have to make the PTA love the idea. Holly J has to work during the PTA meeting so Fiona offers to step in and help with the presentation. Between the trial, exams and the presentation, Fiona is feeling the pressure and decides to increase her drinking. She shows up to the parent’s board meeting wearing Christina Aguilera’s outfit from Lady Marmalade (thankfully she skips the frizzy curls), just about giving Simpson a panic attack.

Holly J arrives just before Fiona breaks into the can-can and is able to save the presentation and get approval from the parents.

Adam has officially become the third wheel with E-Clare’s romance. He plans a guys night with Eli, but Eli bails and says he has to study.

Later that day Adam sees Eli at The Dot hanging out with Clare instead of studying. Busted. At lunch the next day Adam walks by Eli and Clare and looks for someone new to sit with. President of the Welcome Committee, aka Fitz, offers Adam a seat at his table. Wait, what the Fitz? Fitz who ripped off Eli’s hood ornament, got in a fight with Eli, got in a fight with Adam and got in a fight with Drew? Is he a twin? Is this the good Fitzgerald? I am le confused.

Eli confronts Adam later about his new ‘friend’ and Adam asks Eli to hang out with him again. And Eli ditches him, again. In Eli’s defense this is typically what happens when couples get together. Adam, wait for the honeymoon phase to pass and then you and Eli can go back to your CBT (comic book time). This new friendship between Adam and Fitz makes my tummy hurt, like Fitz just punched me in it after trying to push me into a urinal. Remember Adam, remember???

Riley may have bet on Zane at the Bachelor Auction, but he’s still not comfortable with officially coming out until football season is over. Anya suggests that Riley nominate himself and Zane for Homecoming King and King as a big gesture to show Zane he really cares. Apparently, Riley didn’t read the small print on the nomination sheet and was shocked to see that the list of nominees was posted online.

Later that day Degrassi has the biggest game of the season. Before getting on the bus to head to the game another player asks Riley if he’s gay. Taking a stand, Riley confidently says yes and gets support from the rest of the team, especially Drew (awsocutelikeakitten!).

After the game, Coach Armstrong introduces Riley to a college scout that came to see him play. The scout is impressed with Riley and wants to talk to him later about a scholarship. Rather than be excited, Riley is worried that a new team won’t accept him because of his sexual orientation.
