Devon: 2008 Travels & Social Evolution

January 15th, 2008

One of my new year’s resolutions is to travel my ass off in 2008. I have potential trips planned to Kenya and Tanzania in March, Thailand and China in June and – if my chequing account permits – India in September or October for a friend’s sister’s wedding. Why am I sharing this with you? Well, to be honest, it’s all I can think about these days!

I’m not going to lie, I’m slightly uncomfortable with the idea of blogging, mostly because 91% of the time it couldn’t be more self-indulgent. Here I am, talking about me or what I think (which most of the time is meaningless), and you, the readers of the blog, are forced to listen to my senseless rambling about a seemingly inbred need to travel at all times or whatever else I choose to write about.
By the way, I’m perfectly aware of the fact that the last sentence was a “run on” and you know what? I don’t care, because it MY sentence to write, not yours.

See what I mean? Blogging promotes selfishness like Charles Darwin promoted “Darwinism” or the “Survival of the fittest/everyone for themselves” theory (a small side note is that Darwin stole that theory from Herbert Spencer, a 19th century scholar).

The crazy thing is, all I have done with these roughly 250 words thus far is tell you three things that will probably have little to no effect on your day.

Firstly, that I want to travel more, secondly, that I paid attention in my university classes that dealt with the theory of modern social evolution and thirdly, that I generally feel uncomfortable with sounding like an authority on any one thing at any given time.

I pledge that the next blog I write will be at least 16% less selfish.

P.S.: The fourth lesson this blog has taught you about me is that I like to use random percentages to make myself seem more mathematical and therefore 18% more intelligent than I actually am.

;)
