We all know L.A. hip-hop collective Odd Future are the hottest thing in music right now. Labels have been scrambling to scoop them up: XL secured a deal with Tyler, the Creator for his new album, Goblin, and Fat Possum are set to release MellowHype’s BlackenedWhite album this summer. The collective, as a whole, however, are still independent… but it looks like not for long.
Having caused a big stir at South By Southwest last month, Odd Future has some of hip-hop’s biggest moguls tripping over themselves trying desperately to sign them. According to Page Six, the bigwigs currently courting the group for their labels include: Diddy’s Bad Boy, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope and Steve Rifkind’s SRC.
The New York Post says Odd Future are making their suitors lay down offers on their own turf – the Supreme skateshop they occupy in Fairfax, California.
So far they’ve received donuts and a megaphone from Rifkind, and a meeting with Justin Bieber from Diddy. I wonder if Jay-Z had anything to do with Frank Ocean’s collabo with BeyoncĂ©. Either way, these dudes know how to get what they want.
