Making his Toronto debut, up and coming rapper Diggy Simmons talked to New.Music.Live. hosts Phoebe Dykstra and Liz Trinnear about the rumours of a beef surrounding the young MC and J. Cole. News of the beef started to spread when Diggy’s track What You Say To Me was leaked on Sunday. Recorded over a year ago, What You Say To Me was written in response to Cole’s song Purple Rain, in which the Roc Nation rapper talked about Diggy’s sister, Vanessa Simmons.
While appearing on New.Music.Live. today Diggy explained that his song What You Say To Me was meant as a way to stand up for his older sister, saying “it’s not beef, it’s not me dissing him, it’s just about him saying certain things about my sister and she came to me and told my family that he (Cole) was saying things and spreading things that he wasn’t doing back when they were in college.”
Diggy also took time to clear the air about a Facebook message that was allegedly posted by Simmons, poking fun at rapper Drake’s appearance. Diggy quickly shot down the rumour, saying the the message was posted on a fake Facebook account and assuring the crowd, “Drake is one of my favourite artists, he’s real dope.”
