It’s hard to keep track of all the newcomers in hip hop today. Rap radar overflow has become a daily reality. However, one that everyone needs to pay a little more attention to is Diggy Simmons, son of Run DMC member and hip hop pioneer, Reverend Run. Diggy inked a deal with Atlantic Records a year ago and has finally given us a taste of his debut album in the form of his first single, Copy, Paste.
The beat is hella infectious and kind of a cool play off of the title of the song, given its electronic sound. While some of his previous freestyles and work is a little stronger lyrically, I think this track serves as a great preview for his record and still demonstrates that surprisingly mature sound that many wouldn’t expect from a sixteen year old. A lot of people jumped to the conclusion that Diggy was riding off of his father’s name, but if you give his three previously released mixtapes a listen, I think it’s clear that he’s got the talent to back up his own name. You can check out the single here and keep up to date with Diggy via his blog by clicking here.
