Check out Maddy on this season of disBAND!

My name is Maddy Rodriguez. I’m a 15-year-old singer/songwriter and I want to be an Acoustic country/pop recording artist. I just found out that I’m going to be on this season of Much Music’s disBAND.

I thought I’d share with you how it all happened. Over the summer I worked really hard writing everyday and performing everywhere I could. After playing many open mics and coffee shop gigs, I realized that my songs needed something more. A little umph, you know? I knew that having a band behind me would really make my songs come alive. So, my Dad and I put out ads and then auditioned different musicians in order to find me a band!

It was on a Friday that we had the auditions and it was that Friday that we found Kyle, Johnny, and Matt, probably the coolest guys you could ever meet. As soon as they started to play with me at the audition, there was an instant connection and my Dad and I both knew right away that these were the guys we were looking for. Kyle is a guitar player. He has 3454690 tattoos (which is irrelevant, but I just thought I’d mention it). Johnny plays drums, but he also sings, and he’s really good with harmonies. And Matt plays guitar, but also plays a bit of bass. So there you go.. That’s my band!

Now for the good part. During the summer I met many people in the music business, and one of these people suggested to me that I audition for a show called DISBAND. At first I hesitated - I wasn’t sure if I was right for a show like this. But then after talking it over with my family, I realized that it would be an absolutely amazing experience and a great way to get my music out to people around the country. I just couldn’t pass it up! So only 2 weeks after I found my band, we auditioned in front of the MuchMusic producers.

We did the audition in a small boardroom and played a song that I had written last year. It went really really well. However, the producers were a little hard to read… and we had no idea if we had made it on to the show.

A few days later we got a call from MuchMusic saying that they wanted to film us rehearsing at my house. So the guys came over, and two producers showed up with a camera and began to film us practicing. After about 1/2 an hour, I got a call. It was Greig Nori saying, “Congratulations Maddy, you have made it onto this season of Disband!!” And within about 15 seconds, I went from ‘it’s a nice day out’ kind of happy to ‘holy moly wowooww this is awesome’ kind of happy. My band and I were so excited!! My Mom was there to celebrate with us, but my Dad was out of town… so I called him up and decided to prank him. I think it went something like this… “Hey Daddy… Unfortunately MuchMusic decided we weren’t what they were looking for.” Dad: “Whaatttt??? Why?” Me: “I knowww… But it’s okay cuz we actually made it!!! WOOO!” Dad: “Maddy why do you do that to me?” Ahaha. That was funny. Anyway, it was a very good day.

Now I just can’t wait to see what happens next. I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot of fun, a lot of excitement and a lot of work! But I’m up for it!!
