Check out The Stiff Wires on season 2 of disBAND…
Hello! We’re The Stiff Wires out of the Speed City, London, Ontario. We are what some have called a punk band, which probably won’t happen again and not your stereotypical MuchMusic band. Although we have developed somewhat of a Power Pop feel over time we’re still not really what would be considered the Much look and feel. Hopefully us being on disBAND can somehow change what that definition is, in any minor way.
Our road to disBAND was not one we took lightly and it was more of a push by our manager Joe. At first most of the band was very resistant about doing something on such a mainstream level, knowing full well what the backlash from some too punk for you’s would be.
Nevertheless we are a band, and our goal as a band is to push everything we can as far as it will go. So we decided to let all of the country see what we have, nothing to lose but a few kids who will grow out of it before they even get their PERFECTLY fanned hawk brooo. This would be an opportunity to gain what the record labels that would never pay attention to us, can’t even buy for most artists. Oh and we really didn’t have any choice because Joe had already applied, f**ker.
The application was all filled out and we started a Facebook campaign to get people to e-mail MuchMusic and tell them to put The Stiff Wires on disBAND, and we just basically went along on our merry way thinking there is no chance in hell Joe will succeed in getting our kind on this show, so we felt safe in the fact that he would completely fail, then probably quit, and we would just keep doing our thing and be done with that manager bullshit.
Turns out we were wrong.
The Facebook numbers started growing and kids started asking us about what the f*ck was going on. We put it out of our minds and just continued to do our shows, and just book as many of them as we could like usual. We had no idea what was happening with that whole crazy notion of us on MuchMusic. Until Sweet Joe told us that he just heard from a producer at MuchMusic. With a big grin across his face, he informed us we had an audition for disBAND. What the f*ck were those producers thinking?
Funny part about this whole thing is that once we actually got this gig and started the process we actually felt really good about this, we get to show a nation of people how awkward we really are. No band like ours has ever had this opportunity, and it’s likely it’ll be a tougher go for another band like ours to achieve this again. What’s more satisfying though is the fact that someone believed in us so much that he went to wall for us, and has now given us a real opportunity to succeed or fail on our own terms.
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what the judges say, or what anyone else has to say about the subject. We did this thing, and we did it on our terms. We didn’t sell out our values or what little musical integrity we have. In the end it doesn’t matter we’re taking our blind shot and making no apologies. So take us or leave us it doesn’t really matter, at the end of the day we know where we belong. In the words of Amory Blaine:
“I know myself, but that is all.”
keep Shit awkward,
