Hey Guys,
It’s Rafe, from Trick of Disaster, from episode 2 of disBAND.
So for those of you who’ve ever considered taking a VJ’s mic, here’s a little word of advice. DON’T DO IT! Sarah Taylor, if you’re reading this I apologize for that. How about I take you for coffee to make up for it?
Our time shooting for the show was wicked. The constant stream of challenges got us fired up, and getting to hang out with illScarlett gave us a chance to talk with a band thats already done so many of the things we want to do.
I tell you, knowing we had to step in front of judges really forced us to get our act in gear, and it’s paying off even now after filming has wrapped. Since the show, we made a decision as a band. It’s not going to be Rafe solo anymore as a separate project, it’s going to be one thing together. So that solo song I played (Love in a Little Grey Box) and Take it Slowly are all going to be under Trick of Disaster.
Things are pretty crazy for us right now. We’ve already gotten so many nice comments from all of you so thanks for that. Since the show we recorded our first EP!! Dave, who is a wicked producer, recorded it and we’re putting the finishing touches on it and getting it up on iTunes at this very moment! Also, we’re going to record a song a week for the next year and post it to our Myspace page and our Facebook for all our fans! We’re going to mix it up with full band tracks, acoustic tracks and a few surprises along the way.
And the last thing I want to do is to get a big show going in October with a bunch of the other disBAND bands so keep an eye out for that!

Well I must say, vocally Rafe you aren’t to great
sorry but it’s true and I’m glad you realize it too as you clearly showed that you don’t have to much confidence in your voice. I hope your taking vocal lessons because if you tighten up your vox, TOD may have a bright future. No offense to all those new fans of The Homecoming but TOD is way more original then they are, but The Homecoming has a better singer soo it’s all good lol. But as I said before you guys could have a bright future, keep writing some good sounding songs and good luck. -
Thanks dude. Ya, I know I don’t have the best voice and I’m actually taking singing lessons right now. I knew it was a weakness coming into this, and it really did hurt us at the end. I’m going to try to really practice my singing in the next few months and if I can’t get to where I need to be, we might try and find a new singer.

Why does everyone(judges included) talk about this drummer being awesome? He was ok. Good even. But “fantastic”? Ummm….

You guys are pretty good, but that ‘can I play another song’ thing was pretty tacky… I listened to the full ‘Love In A Grey Box’ song on your myspace… it’s kind of lacking something acoustic only… ever consider adding the other instruments in it rather than just adding the solo version under the band?

Ya, we tried playing it with a band and we still might do it more. Asking to play another song was definitely a terrible call, and asking to do it is definitely my biggest regret of the show, and probably seriously hurt our chances. I really should’ve known better, and I’m kicking myself now.

This show is such irony that it’s on MuchMusic. I fully agree that The Homecoming and TOD aren’t there yet, and they’re both lacking originality, but right after watching them, the channel plays crap like the Pussycat Dolls, The Jonas Brothers, Hedley, Metro Station, etc. You may as well have offered these two unsigned bands some deals because obviously that brand of terrible music sells on your station.

dudeee, you guys owned the homecoming. they were just way to unoriginal. and yes, everyone is saying he’s a better singer then you.I disagree, you’re voice may need more work then his, but his isn’t different, its not original. if you worked with yours, it could be good, and definitely original. also, the keyboard was amazing, no one uses them anymore and the fact that you used one and it didn’t sound like crap. your drummer was good too, its not always about being flashy, the best drummers can keep rhythm. do you guys play shows anywhere? or are you still stuck in the basement/garage/jamroom phase?

Thanks dude, but it’s not really a competition. It’s just that different music appeals to different people. We’re actually playing the el mocambo with soulplane this thursday! Anyways, thanks for the comment!

I doubt anyone still reads this but I thought I’d give a little update.
1) We got a Factor Grant from the Canadian Government to record 3 songs! These grants are very hard to get and it goes to a panel of industry professionals so we were pretty excited about that.
2) We’re the number 8 band on myspace in Pop Punk in Canada!
3) We got our song “I Got Time” put in a TV Show!
Anyway, that’s it… ya, i figure no one reads this except for maybe the board moderator, so what’s up board moderator, how do you like working at Much? Pretty fun?

Congrats on the factor grant, the ranking as number 8 (no.8’s sweet n all but yo da no.1 place is waaay better can’t wait to see u guys up there), and your song on a tv show! You guys are getting pree far by yourselves Dats dayum ass crazy.
The mic thing was a bit uncalled for though..good thing you guys settled that shizz, and now whats done is done…you might wanna get vocal lessons though cuz they’d really help. Like the pitch of the voice though aha. Keep the originality rollin guys, too many bland bands out there lately can’t wait to hear more from you!
