Last night’s episode was the one before the season finale of Discovered so it’s down to the last rehearsal for Nightbox, For The Weekend, Colorsound, Brighter Brightest, Slow Motion Victory, and Brett Boivin.
Nightbox Gets Prepared For Farts
Laptop farts, that is! It’s been a month since the lads played any music together due to their travels back to Ireland, however they are all back in Toronto and ready to rehearse for the upcoming showcase! At Coalition Music, Greig Nori came to check out the band at work and brought up what happened at the last gig (laptop malfunction!). James Shelly felt awkward just thinking about the unthinkable and never wants that to happen again. Greig made sure it wouldn’t by bringing them a new laptop courtesy of HP! “Happy February!” More goodies arrive for the boys as Damian Abraham from F*cked Up and MuchMusic’s The Wedge came to offer some advice. Nightbox was having one of those nights when their performance for Damian didn’t go too well, according to them. It was definitely not noticeable as Damian thought it was great. His advice was to trick the audience into thinking mess-ups are what you meant to do because they don’t know if you messed up or not. Greig recapped the band’s progress and it’s safe to say that these boys have been the most technical band of the season as they produced quite a lot of music.

For The Weekend Embraces It All
The band flew to Toronto from Calgary, escaping any bus troubles. Colton was very sick as Doctor Jay saw redness in his throat. The show still went on as the band played a gig at Hard Luck Bar. Greig came to watch and took note of how Myles was singing the ballad. He felt as if his voice was struggling and it looked hard for him to sing. Myles revealed they have been working with a vocal coach to help him better his voice. At Coalition Music, the band performed the ballad for Greig once again to reassure him it won’t be anything to worry about. Greig can finally admit he is proud of the boys and recapped their time together. From day one, it wasn’t anything spectacular as he recalled his lecture at the SkyDome for the boys to step it up. Since then they have seen the light, hired coaches and pulled their things together.

Colorsound Are Good Doers
Since their work with music therapist Chrissy Pearson at the Music Therapy Centre in Toronto, the band is helping to raise money for music therapy at Ryerson University. But there were some major van troubles. At least the Canadian weather was good when the boys used snow to cool down their van. Eric was sick and had a hard time performing the acoustic set. The band got through it and went off to the garage to try to save the van. Greig recapped Colorsound’s adventure and mentioned their song writing skills. The band has written some of the best songs they could and with the showcase coming up, it’s finally time to show them off.

Brighter Brightest Fights Off Sickness
There must have been some bug floating around as Derek was also sick. The band tried to rehearse at Rehearsal Factory with Derek’s new ‘sexy voice’. Greig came to check on the boys and recommended Derek go see a doctor for his voice. As a vocalist himself, Greig remembered his adventures with a drug specialist, recounting his days with needles and steroids down his throat for the goodness of his voice. Derek goes to the otolaryngology (try saying that five times fast) clinic and the doctor recommended some antibiotics. Greig recapped the band’s journey as he remembered how they gave trust into Machine the producer in New Jersey and have come so far on their music. They are a band who is already well on their way to doing it all.
Slow Motion Victory Hides Some Drama
Last episode, Chris Taylor spoke about not wanting to continue with Slow Motion Victory after the showcase because he felt that Toby is the most unprofessional person he has ever worked with. According to Toby in the car, Chris and him do have struggles but they keep it professional. According to Chris, he does not want to stay in a band where he is miserable. Cool fact revealed by Toby in the car: Slow Motion Victory was awarded the Much VideoFact for their video, In The Beginning! Toby compared their dislike of members to Blink 182’s situation. Liam Killeen, Greig’s manager, noticed Chris sitting as far away from the band as possible and is definitely not buying everything is good among the band. Toby did not want to comment on Chris Taylor’s departure from the band. Greig recapped the roller coaster of a ride that is Slow Motion Victory. The band has had many struggles and is still trying to find themselves as a band. This is probably the most true thing you could ever see as many bands go through this process all the time.

Brett Boivin Is Still Playing With A Band
At Rehearsal Factory, Greig showed up to find Brett still jamming with the band and is still very much impressed with how our solo boy is meshing with the other musicians. Brett has come a long way from his days in Winnipeg. He is no longer the shy type as he picks up his guitar and plays with confidence. Greig remembered the live performances where Brett just played through his songs flatly with no dynamics. Now, Brett is much more relaxed and is able to play through his songs with their intended emotion.
Are there no more farts for Nightbox? Does For The Weekend have it together? What will be the next good thing Colorsound do? When is the album release for Brighter Brightest? Will it be Slow Motion Victory minus Chris Taylor? Is Brett Boivin no longer a solo act?
Find out next week on the season finale of Discovered as the six bands perform for industry people and fans! Watch their dreams come true on Tuesday October 18 at 10 PM EST!
