It’s November, the holidays are around the corner and there’s a load of video games to be played. A little game by the name of Modern Warfare 2 (review coming soon) just dropped but lets take a break from shooting Ultranationalists in the face for a moment.

Dragon Age: Origins comes from the fine folks over at Bioware who did the amazing space opera game Mass Effect. This time around, rather then traveling from planet to planet you’re on a trek to rid the land of Ferelden of a demon army.

Sure, the overall storyline may sound like your cliché fantasy rpg but what sets it apart is the personal intricacies of the characters. After a couple hours of play you genuinely care about some characters and others you begin loathe. The storyline is deep and rich with strong voice acting. Often while playing I would stop what I’m doing just to hear the conversations between my characters.

Combat is a big draw in for me with Dragon Age, the game blends traditional and action based rpg mechanics. The battles have a good flow that doesn’t feel too stagnate or boring. The difficulty in combat is set high, so you’ll have to use your wit and make a lot of calculated decisions to insure victory. Don’t worry though, the satisfaction of coming out of a planned battle successful makes it all meaningful.

You can’t summarize Dragon Age in a review. The depth of the game’s content is endless and it can be played through many times. If you’re really good at role-playing games you can probably zip through the main storyline but you’ll miss out on a lot of the game’s awesome sidequests. Overall, Dragon Age: Origins leaves me knowing that I probably won’t need another role-playing game as good as this for a long time.
