The highly anticipated video for Drake and Rihanna’s second collaboration, this time in the form of Drake’s title track from his sophomore album Take Care, has arrived and thankfully does not disappoint. The simple black and white video is a performance piece that’s inter-spliced with images of animals in a sound stage. While both artists tend to stick to more literal videos for their songs, Take Care is a welcomed art-piece in the often commercially-ridden music video genre.
Clips of Drake and Rihanna performing their verses while donning understated outfits make up the majority of the video’s visuals, with additional scenes of the couple singing while embracing one another reinstate the tenderness of the track. While no clear cut story or explanation of the animals used in the video has been released by either artist, fans are already warming up to the avant garde video, racking up almost two million YouTube hits in two days.
The concept of the video is also a stretch for director Yoann Lemoine, whose most successful works include traditional concept videos, such as Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and Taylor Swift’s Back To December. Take Care marks the first time Lemoine has worked with Drake or Rihanna.
