Drew Barrymore is set to direct a The Wizard of Oz sequel called Surrender Dorothy. The project was first announced in 2002 with Barrymore set to star but it is unclear if she will be both directing and acting or if she will find a new lead.
Drew’s directorial debut Whip It premiered last year. The story will be about the great-great-granddaughter of Dorothy who, “ has to learn how to use the power of those ruby red slippers to keep the Wicked Witch of the West from taking control of the kingdoms of Earth and Oz.”
Surrender Dorothy is one of two new Wizard of Oz based films in development. The Great Powerful is rumoured to be directed by Adam Shankman or Sam Mendes and will tell the story of the wizard potentially played by Robert Downey Jr. Both sound great to us!Tweet
