Earworm Of The Week: Lily Allen “The Fear”

December 3rd, 2008

Earlier this year in August, Lily Allen, ever the blogger, posted a rough cut of a new song called I Don’t Know on her MySpace page, which I promptly placed on repeat and listened to till its wicked lyrics were firmly embedded in my brain.

Lily’s a bit indecisive - so she’s since changed the song’s title to The Fear and swapped Everyone’s At It (an equally great song, btw) for the first single from her upcoming second album It’s Not Me, It’s You, which is out February 10, 2009.

The Fear (the song formerly known as I Don’t Know) is an incredibly catchy song - it picks you up almost right away with its witty lyrics, which start out thusly:

I wanna be rich and I want lots of money
I don’t care about clever and I don’t care about funny
I want loads of clothes and f**kloads of diamonds
I heard people dying while trying to find them
I’ll take my clothes of and it’ll be shameless
‘Cause everyone knows that’s how you get famous

…and then completely hooks you by the chorus. Listen to the full song below on her label’s YouTube page:

The official video for The Fear premieres tomorrow, December 4 @ 11:40pm GMT on Channel 4. It’s rumoured to have been filmed in
Wrest Park, Bedfordshire and features Lily surrounded by hundreds of colourful balloons. It is scheduled to premier via Channel 4 on Thursday, December 4th 2008 at 11:40pm.

You can still listen to Everyone’s At It on Lily’s MySpace page, which I highly encourage you to do, even if it’s not the first single. I’m beside myself in anticipation for this new album after having heard these songs…
