Every few years a voice so strong, emotional and poignant comes along that their album becomes an instant classic that future generations will continue to play and hear their own stories represented in the truest sense. This year that album belongs to Scottish singer Emeli Sande, whose debut record Our Version of Events is a solid 13-track collection of heartbreak, success, love, and everything in-between.

Sande’s timeless album infuses R n B, pop, jazz, and soul with classic string instruments, crafting melodies that provide the perfect backdrop to Emeli’s pitch perfect vocal delivery. Sande sings with such conviction and depth that at times it sounds like the singer is coming through the speakers.

Though Sande rose to fame through collaborations with UK artists Chipmunk and Professor Green, her lone voice on Our Version of Events is more than enough to fill the album. Leaving medical school to pursue her music career, Sande’s music has a healing quality that will last for decades to come.
