Everyone relax, Conor Maynard has returned to save pop music

August 27th, 2013

In a week where one of the biggest music award shows of the year focused on Miley’s booty instead of her song, music fans need some reassurance that the future of pop isn’t going to be all about who can shock us the most. Thankfully, our prayers have been answered today with the messiah, Conor Maynard.

Maynard is gearing up to release the follow up to his incredible (and hugely underrated – don’t even get me started) debut album Contrast with the sophomore album’s lead single R U Crazy.

The comparisons of Maynard to other artists usually stay in the Justin-range. After being discovered on YouTube, the Justin Bieber comparisons plauged the beginning of Maynard’s career. With the release of Contrast and Maynard’s impressive falsetto taking front and centre on many of the songs, the Timberlake comparisons rolled in and rightly so.

But with Conor’s new single R U Crazy, I think it’s time we throw in a little Bruno Mars for good measure. The two artists are both able to successfully blend a variety sounds in a way that compliments genres rather than overlap one another to the point of no discernible influences, with Mars sticking more to Motown and Jazz and Maynard taking a cue from his upbringing in the UK and melding electronic with RnB.

With a dark and sexy new video complete with an energetic performance from Maynard, R U Crazy is hopefully the jump off Conor needs to take his second album to the top of the charts.
