It’s the most wonderful time of the year! *scanning sarcasm 100%*
…And by that I mean time for the major networks to haul out their new shows and shove them in front of an audience like an overeager stage mother forcing their child on stage in a talent competition. Sing out, Louise! Unfortunately half of the fall fare seems to lack even half the originality, charisma and flair of any tiny tot strutting their stuff on stage…so on that note, I present 5 Fall TV Shows That I Will Be Avoiding More Than That Guy I Never Called Back:
5. Moonlight (CBS) - Now I love a good vampire detective do-gooder tale as much as the next gal, if that gal is Anne Rice…but it was done well twice (Angel and Forever Knight anyone?) and should never be attempted again. Especially in the form of a plot that takes itself WAY too seriously (think Jack Bauer with fangs in a trenchcoat with a LOT of sighing and brooding). Also they’ve recast this one since production started…more than once - never a good sign.
4.Back to You (Fox)- I know, I’m as shocked as anyone else that Fox runs more than American Idol and 24! Who knew they had other shows? This one stars Kelsey Grammar and Patricia Heaton as recently reunited news anchors…I’m sure it will be full of hilarious misunderstandings and witty banter but these two are only funny when surrounded by funny people…so I’m guessing I’ll be yawning more than laughing and just counting the days until Jack Bauer boots them from the line-up.
3.Cavemen (ABC)- So you know those somewhat amusing Geico commercials with the normal modern guy who just happens to be a Caveman who fights against the stereotypes of society? He got his own series. I know…there are no words. Stay tuned next year for Duck staring the crazy quacker from the Aflac commercials.
2.Lipstick Jungle (NBC)- Colour me far from excited…a show about stereotypical women and the challenges they face in life and love in New York City. With exciting plots like why doesn’t that guy like me for me?, this outfit is Prada so why doesn’t my boss respect me? and the multi-episode arc of he’s just not that into you. From the creator of Sex and the City, Candice Bushnell…who is apparently suffering from a severe case of amnesia and doesn’t realise she’s already made this exact show. Someone should really tell her…AWKWARD!
1.The Return of Jezebel James (FOX)- It pains me to say anything negative about anything from creator Amy Sherman-Palladino (she was responsible for the awesomeness that was most of the Gilmore Girls) but based on the preview not even talented twosome Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose can save the lame premise and bad script cluster*&^% that is this show. It has cancellation written all over it.
And just so you don’t think I’m Nancy Negative…check back tomorrow for my list of must-see shows coming up on TV this fall.

Sadly…the Geico show is getting the go ahead.
And put your mind to rest…those storylines are just what I guessing we’ll see based on the stuff I’ve seen. The show is supposed to be all about career women but I can’t find a descriptor about the show that doesn’t mention the women looking to find “Mr. Right”…so I’m taking the career thing with a very tiny grain of salt
I’ve seen the Jezebel James pilot … it’s even more awful than you think.
The laugh track alone is a major turn off.
Good to know that occasionally networks make relatively accurate previews! Even if it does mean that the show is just as bad as it looks…lol
why does the set of jezebel james look like it belongs in the 90s? sooooo disappointed!
It totally looks like a rejected set from an episode of Head of the Class or maybe even Boy Meets World!
Where’s Topanga?
How do these shows get the green light but then Arrested Development & V Mars get shelved?
Can’t wait to see the rest of the list!
Wow…get out of my mind Marissa! That is almost word for word what I thought when I saw the fall line-up
Although if you are a fan of Veronica Mars, it is interesting to note that my #5 pick - Moonlight - has re-casted one of the main roles and the role of Josef, the shady ancient vampire, will now be played by the awesome Jason Dohring (i.e. Logan Echolls) so I might break down and watch a few just to catch a glimpse of him.
I’m always excited for Sept when the new shows come out but am amazed at how great the trailers look and then the show is horrible.
Then am surprised at the crappy ones that actually turn out to be my favorites.
Just hopin for nothin too gushy - gimme something with brains for a change.
‘course hate the usual american humour but what can ya do
That’s true - you never can base too much on the preview trailers! It’s often the best shows that the networks package poorly because they don’t know how to handle something that doesn’t fit into their thin formulas…so it’s a good idea to give everything at least a fighting chance. If there is at least one redeaming feature…you can bet I’ll watch everything at least once…even the bad!
I downloaded the pilot for Caveman, and it was actually quite funny.
As for the others, who knows what will happen.
I’m actually looking forward to Moonlight, I liked angel but thought it was a tad campy at times, moonlight looks a lot more serious.
Rah rah oo la la rama ma la la gaga!

OOhh…I was hoping that the rumours about the Geico show weren’t true - didn’t it already get shelved!? Or maybe it just got booted from one network to another.
And I’m sad about “The Return Of Jezebel James”. My love for Parker Posey is normally unwavering, but everything I’ve read about this show makes me want to run the other way screaming.
Those Lipstick Jungle plotlines can’t be real - are they? Oh god.
