In a world where High School Musicals rule the most desirable demographic, it only makes sense that Fame, the lovable Oscar-winning movie from the 80s that spawned many a spin-off, is reportedly getting an official remake.

OK, yes, as evidence from my discontinued items post, I am currently going through a nostalgic period in my life, so this Fame news might be more exciting for me than for some others, but c’mon - who hasn’t dreamed of going to a prestigious art school, to sing and dance and play numerous instruments, to live, to love, to learn… (Don’t you judge me!)

Here are the deets of the remake: it is set to star Thomas Dekker (pictured), that kid from Heroes and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and will be directed by choreographer Kevin Tancharoen who has worked on many a music video and on MTV’s DanceLife.

This has cheeseball potential written all over it and I for one am saddened that I have to wait a whole year for this to hit the screen. But this is my favourite part: kids from around the world are posting auditions for this remake all over YouTube. They range from decent to god-awful, but definitely worth searching for - I definitely had a few LOL moments.

But before you do that, to get you in the mood, here is the original 1980 teaser trailer:

PS: Speaking of Thomas Dekker, he also has a MySpace page where he showcases his self-made music. It’s definitely, um, interesting.
